Wasn't 1.66:1 the European Widescreen back in the day. I think some James Bonds and Hitchcock movies were also in that AR.
I've no clue why Verhoeven chose that AR for an American movie.

As for the features on the disc:
Audio Commentary by Director Paul Verhoeven, Co-Writer Edward Neumeier, Executive Producer Jon Davison and RoboCop Expert Paul M. Sammon
Storyboards
- Film-to-Storyboard Comparison (1:24)
- Unshot Sequence: The Chase (stills)
- Unshot Sequence: The Cemetery (stills)
An Illustrated Essay on the 'Making Of RoboCop'
Teaser Trailer (1:29)
Theatrical Trailer (1:39)

I still wonder if the commentary track is different from all others as they explicity mention Paul M. Sammon. I've to listen to it and compare it to the blu-ray commentary track.

Sure thing, but I was only quoting the prices as they appeared from Amazon as they were at hand from the site and to provide a measuring stick.

It is rumored Nights of Cabiria will soon be available on Blu, so I'm not surprised some are choosing to cash in now as opposed to waiting.

My goodness.

I’ve fallen off the complete Criterion collection in the past couple years. Once I had a family to pay for it became a bit harder. Still hope to have it all one day. The only OOPs that I’m aware I’m currently missing are Nanook and the Hirosi Teshigahara set.

The BRD Trilogy

3 Silent Classics by Josef von Sternberg

Pandora’s Box

Those are probably the rarest DVDs in my collection.

Third Man Bluray
Well -- pretty much all the OOP Blurays so take your pick

I don't have that many DVDs other than the Eclipse sets. I'm not sure entirely which is rare.
Eclipse Box #6 -- Carlos Saura Flamenco trilogy

Rohmers 6 Moral Tales
4 by Agnes Varda
Mon Oncle
Life of Brian

I thought I had This is Spinal Tap, but I just have the non Criterion.

I do have quite a few of the rarer Laserdiscs
CAV King Kong, Citizen Kane, the banned Bond trio

BR:
The Third Man
The Confession
Léon Morin, Priest

DVD:
Nights of Cabiria
Diary of a Country Priest
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
How to Get Ahead in Advertising
Pandora’s Box

Used to have quite a few more OOP DVDs, but I traded/sold them if there were Blu-ray upgrades from other studios: Grand Illusion, Hitchcock Wrong Men and Notorious Women, and a few others.

I just always remember that when Criterion first started doing DVD, they released "Salo", way back in 1998. It was only in print for a couple of months, and then a rights dispute led to it being discontinued. Then, it was OOP from Criterion for a decade, and during this time became the most notoriously rare and expensive Criterion DVD, often going for hundreds of dollars.

I am always sorry for those guys who actually paid huge premiums for that really cruddy DVD release, sourced from the same VHS master that the old Waterbearer Films VHS from 1991 was sourced from, overly dark, murky, non-anamorphic, bare bones.

Then, in 2008, Criterion finally re-issued it, in a rather beautiful restoration, loaded with tons of outstanding special features, book, essays, etc. . A blu ray upgrade followed in 2011.

Those few who paid those scoundrels hundreds of dollars back in the day must feel really burned.

Now, "Salo" is available in great editions everywhere, even places like the UK and Australia, where it was once banned.

My main reason for getting it back when it was released was that it was the uncut version. I believe that footage was snipped to prevent it from getting an "X" rating.

For reasons of my own, I'm looking to buy the DVD version of Criterion's Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, and every re-seller I find online is trying to sell it for hundreds of dollars, despite the blu-ray version being widely available at normal prices.

Any idea why the DVD is different?

I had the SOTL Criterion.

Loaned it to a 'friend' and when I asked for it back he told me he sold it for an 8th.

That was the end of the friendship.

Criterions I managed NOT to loan to a thieving scumbag.

Withnail And I
Hard Boiled
The Last Temptation Of Christ
Robocop
Brazil
The Rock
The Life Of Brian
Chasing Amy
Rushmore

I have a few Anchor Bays.

Halloween (this has a lenticular cover)
Manhunter
Hellraiser & Hellbound: Hellraiser II (this is a metal tin)
Day of the Dead (this has a folding cardboard cover with velcro)
Army of Darkness

The only other thing that springs to mind is the Japanese DVD of Kill Bill. It's in colour the whole way through.
