On all accounts it was a damaged tape with dropouts. They could have easily done better if they'd put a little more effort into sourcing the original audio. But then again this was the outfit that didn't even bother making sure the 3d was watchable on their Friday the 13th Part3 disc

the 3D was absolutely watchable. it was an insignificant glitch during the opening credits, which they fixed.

They actually did reveal the reason why they used VHS sourced audio. Warner Bros. did in fact have an element with the original score, but it was only in mono. They weren't able to track down a more proper source with the original score in stereo, so Shout used the VHS audio since it was quite literally the best sounding stereo track they could find. The laserdisc apparently sounded worse than the VHS so it's good they didn't use that as basis.

Lol. Wrong. What I'm talking about is not the error with the opening titles, and no they did not fix the 3d for the film. And no, it wasn't a minor problem.
Hence why people are buying the Turbine disc to replace it, as the Turbine did fix the problems with the Shout release. I suggest you read the thread about it over in the 3d section.

That's not good enough. Out of every possible option, one damaged VHS was literally the only thing available? No chance. There was better out there. Even if it was other tapes to cover the damaged sections of the audio.

Not good enough? How about literally all they had access to? You're forgetting that they're licensing this from a major studio and so it's up to the studio to provide them with proper sources which they clearly didn't have.

That's nonsense. So you're claiming that Warner were the ones who gave them the VHS tape they used then?

It's definitely a possibility since the stereo elements clearly weren't properly archived.

I'll go check out that thread. But I've watched the corrected Shout disc in 3D twice, and it looked great with the image really popping out of the screen as intended. So I don't know what issues it has that people are saying it does?

I was talking about ROTLD2, if you're talking about Friday the 13th Part 3, the issue was on that disc that the opening credits weren't popping out properly on the 3D version.

The 3d wasn't aligned. It's completely off and causes most people to suffer terrible headaches as a result. There's also significant double imaging (crosstalk) problems that don't need to be there. There's been a fan made bootleg version floating around for years that doesn't have either of these problems, and the German Turbine disc doesn't have them either.
Put the film on, go the end credits and take your glasses off. It's really easy to see there how bad it is.
As I recommended before, read the thread about it in the 3D section.

This is a good Starting point regarding the bodged Shout release of F13 pt3-

So it was just the opening credits scene that SF "fixed" on their BD for Friday the 13th 3D?

Well that's just false, the laserdisc sounds amazing compared to what is on the Blu-ray.

Is that even possible? (genuine question, I'm an idiot looking for constant education on these subjects).

I believe this. Hopefully the right people find out. Wouldn't it be great to have a 4K with that track and the original movie poster included?

Someone earlier in this thread said the laserdisc sounded terrible.

I never saw that post? Since there are allegedly conflicting claims, they can't both possibly be true.

Since I have compared myself, I know which one is correct. You should definitely do the comparison yourself.

Possible but unlikely. I can't think of one laserdisc with worse audio than VHS.

Man, I got excited seeing this bumped, thinking we were getting a 4K release.

For a Few Dollars More had better fidelity on the earlier VHS than the laserdisc. But here's a post confirming that the laserdisc that Shout did have access to (the JP LD most likely) did in fact sound worse than the VHS.

That doesn't prove that the laserdisc audio is worse, just that Shout claimed it was.

No it's quite clear that user checked the JP LD before making his statements and said it sounded worse.
