Just finished S1.

That was fu**ing brutal!

At first it was like, hey this is a fun dystopian hellscape... but then you ended up caring for the characters.

And by Ep 6 it just became increasingly hard to watch.

I won't lie, I fu**ing cried.

I think they should have ended it with one season. Because there's no way they can recapture the emotional impact of S1...and really it'll just be diminishing returns.

But hey....there's $$$ to be made. Sigh.

While I thought the underlying ideas were great and innovative, I could never get into this show due to the terrible overacting. Probably a cultural thing, but it often made what was supposed to be drama very campy in my eyes.

Watched season 2 this past weekend and am shocked by how good it actually was, haha. Ready for the conclusion!

I loved it. Not as strong as the first season but still great stuff. Very exited for the final season too.

What do you all think? Given that S2 is out and getting some positive buzz, is there a chance it can measure up to the emotional weight and quality of S1, or are we looking at potential diminishing returns as the story goes on?

Obviously, not as good as Season 1, but that was expected. Better for them to end the story next season before they completely run out of material.

I just wish
[Show spoiler]they kept the games the same because it would've been interesting for Gi-hun to try to keep everybody alive the whole way through with his survival knowledge.

What a brutal final season. Really fitting and I'm glad the creator decided that this was the final season. However,
[Show spoiler]does that last act mean that there will be an American series or just that the game has spread further?

Only got the last episode to watch now. Episode 5 was especially excellent.

The acting from the
[Show spoiler]foreign VIPs
is atrocious though.

The rich people have always been completely pointless, and annoying as hell. The absolute worst element of the show.
Not a single sentence has any relevance to the actual story being told.

With that, I think "season 3" was pretty awful. Also, seasons 2 and 3 should have just been one season, because the split was most likely to keep the name of the series online for discussion longer than just doing the whole thing at once.
There were no "mini-arcs" in storytelling and payoffs that should go with a series. Instead, they just cut it in half and left all resolution for the last half. Pretty dumb decision, from a writing perspective.

Glad it's over, but I am sure there will be 1-3 spinoff shows. They won't have anything new to say or present, and they'll repeat the same things over and over again.

Season 3 sucks and the hate is justified.
[Show spoiler]The writers adding a baby (I'm not joking) ruined it for me.

I agree. My interest dropped a lot after episode 2 of season 3. What a brutal episode too.

Still finished it til the end and while I kind of knew who was going to win the game at the end the path to get their was different then what I had thought would have happened.

Yeah, that additional character was stupid as all get out.

[Show spoiler]So a baby is born, and they then say "that is a player". Like... what? It's a completely innocent bystander, born during the games. It had never once made the decision to be a part of the games. It's a baby... it can't even DO anything. It is a non-entity, and should have been taken away immediately for adoption or something.

Yet, they make that a key part of the story going forward. They use that baby as a tool for dramatic manipulation in ways that make no sense whatsoever.

I already felt the show was getting dumber and dumber, but that was the last straw for me.
But also, that 'detective' on the boat has to be one of the most ignorant, incompetent, completely oblivious characters I have seen in a show in a verrrrry long time.

Too bad they didn't quit while they were ahead. Which was season 1.
Just one and done was enough. They had nothing new to say or do for the second season (which is 'season' 2 and 3). It just embarrassed itself and besmirched its potential legacy.

It's been known for a while that
[Show spoiler]David Fincher has been developing an American version of the show. Not a remake, but having the games happening elsewhere in the same universe. No official announcements so far, but the ending seems to point to it being on the horizon.

I hope that there's not
[Show spoiler]a spin off. I think the concept has played itself out and I'm not eager to see an American Squid Game
.

I thought that the
[Show spoiler]baby was a good addition. All of the events in the games are allegorical to a degree, and the baby was there to represent the blameless innocents who get caught up in the system through literally no fault of their own
.

I was totally bored by
[Show spoiler]the sub plot that took place outside the games though. It felt like nothing happened. Like, we're still on a boat, still looking for that island!
