Default Ride The Wild Surf (1964)

I love this film. It's equal parts Serious, Pithy, Humorous, Madcap... and Surfing, and has great performances by everyone involved... AND... it has Barbara Eden as a voluptuous Redhead, Shelley Fabares as a thoughtful hot Blonde... and we occasionally even see gorgeous Susan Hart sexily hanging around the Ranch and the Beach.

It also has some pretty neat surfing photography.

I think it ranks right up there with my fave Beach Films: "Where the Boys Are," "Gidget..." not including the fun Frankie and Annette flicks.

I noticed that is is available as a High-Def Stream on Amazon, so, whatever that might mean... Rescanned? I assume probably not...

So... I guess I'm curious if anyone might know about a possible BR release? If it has been in other Countries? Or even just info on the film

The only release I know about is the old DVD in the US. I'd love to see it hit Blu-ray.

There needs to be a Beach Box Set with all of the Original "Serious" Beach Films, "Gidget," 1959; "Where the Boys Are," 1960; "Ride the Wild Surf," 1964.... etc..

I always figure that RTWS was an attempt to do a somewhat more serious version of "Beach Party," but it seems RTWS was being filmed before "Beach Party" was released.

Just checking-in to see if anyone's heard anything about a Blu-Ray release of this? It's still up on Prime in HD, so someone remastered it...

I decided to take a chance and watch the HD Streaming version on Amazon Prime a few nights ago. It was decent. Better than my DVD, which is also pretty decent.

Nice detail in most of the scenes. More colors than on the DVD. The filters in some of the scenes were a bit more obvious, which looked nice. The great Surfing Footage looked a little bit better. I always assumed they were shot Documentary style on 16mm - some still might have been - but most of the shots look more like a Telephoto Lens in 35mm.

All-in-all a very decent upgrade... and odd that it's not available as a BR.

I’d also love to see this hit bluray. I watched it on TCM several years ago and really enjoyed it. It’s a Sony film, correct? I wonder if it’s possible it’ll get a boutique release at some point.

I'm with you 100% That's why I started this thread. I'd LOVE to see this on BR.

Some of my fave so-called Beach Movies (the ones before the Frankie and Annette ones), like "Where the Boys Are" (Great Film< and Frank Gorshin is awesome) and a few others that aren't coming to mind at this second, have already been released on BR. So, why no "Ride the Wild Surf?" I mean, usually-Blonde Barbara Eden as a gorgeous Redhead... and usually-Redhead Shelley Fabares as a Gorgeous Blonde. Kinda casting against type (Obviously not really).

Someone remastered in in HD so, so maybe someone was thinking of releasing it as a BR.

I run (like a drunken cripple these days) Ocean Beach in SF, and I always stop and chat with the surfers (I used to surf in High School - I sucked) and I'm always a little amazed that some of these young "doods" love this film. Maybe it's because its a "serious" Pop Movie and not "semi-slapstick" like and Annette films (which I also enjoy, but not as much as this and "Where The Boys Are)... I see a lot of Grey Area stuff at the local Street Fairs, but never this.
