Has anyone compared I, Madman to the old release?

Turns out The release of The Vengeance of Dr. Mabuse is NOT the director's cut:

It will be the re-edited German version which cuts a reel of Franco's original footage and replaces it with footage shot by another director hired by producer Artur Brauner, who hated Franco's cut.

Basically another (along with the Nachy film Frankenstein’s Bloody Terror) Kino Cult release that does NOT include the original version.

Franco made a bunch of films as a package for Artur Brauner. Same as he did for Adrian Hoven, Robert de Nesle etc. The German versions are the official ones as the producer had the final say on them, and not all of the films had a Spanish version - and in some cases the Spanish versions, such as VAMPYROS LESBOS, were heavily cut of nudity and violence.

So it's pointless being angry over this.

Kino's announcement last Saturday of Dan Curtis' Late-Night Mysteries is one of the titles I've been most excited about in the last few months. Will be checking out each of the four productions.

Unless I missed it, I don't think Kino numbered the Gothic Tales release yet. When it was announced, it wasn't even listed as a Kino Cult title, but the Kino Insider did confirm it will be, just like the other Dan Curtis releases.

Throughout his career, director Pete Walker (House of Whipcord) was no stranger to controversy, but his 1974 film Frightmare sparked a firestome of criticism from the protectors of public morals, who deemed it “despicable” (London Observer), “horrendous” (Evening News), and “a moral obscenity” (Daily Telegraph). In spite of the condemnation—or more likely, because of it—Frightmare has achieved an almost legendary status in British horror history. Sheila Keith (House of the Long Shadows) stars as a former patient of a mental institution, who has settled down in a remote farmhouse, where she tells fortunes in her spare time. But the kind, maternal exterior conceals a dreadful monster, which the asylum, it seems, was unable to cure.

Cult movie superstar Dyanne Thorne reunited with director Don Edmonds to revive the sadistic, sex-crazed character who made her a legend in Ilsa, Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks. Assisted by her twin assassins, Satin (Tanya Boyd, Black Shampoo) and Velvet (Marilyn Joe, Black Samurai), Ilsa serves the perverted pleasures of a decadent oil baron and sex-trafficker, El Sharif (Jerry Delony). An American diplomat (Richard Kennedy) and military officer (Max Thayer) try to gain access to El Sharif’s oil, but once they witness the horrible pleasures of his desert playground, will they be allowed to escape? Produced in the wake of the 1973 OPEC oil crisis, the sequel abandons the Nazis of Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS in favor of a fresh stereotype custom-cut for its time, and proves itself to be just as tasteless and politically incorrect as its predecessor.
