The color doesn't look like when you watched at the movies or on VHS, laserdisc or dvd.

Definitely a color issue on the UHD Disc, the standard BD from the same master doesn't have the same problem...

It's the exact same master, synched perfectly on both discs

The only difference is that the UHD disc has the color drained out

I suggest as many people as possible reach out to Shout about this, and hopefully they can look into it: info@shoutfactory.com

edit: I'll be adding a note about this to the first post too.

I don't see pink to be honest, it looks more red than pink.

Anyway, I think it's clear that a color space conversion error happened on the UHD BD.

Maybe the usual P3 vs BT.2020 issue??

Basically all color is lost

Well. watched this one last night, I have taped this off cable as a kid and have bought the dvd, but for some reason I can't find my old Blu Ray. I'm sorry to say this one just doesn't have much going for it which pains me to say( I have a 65-inch TV sitting 6 feet away and a Panny UB820) the picture is rather flat and soft also there isn't much color popping like I would've hoped.
It's the best it's ever looked but take that how you will, unless you're a huge fan of this film I would definitely wait for a good sale. As far as the film goes, I was still laughing like crazy and having a blast with it so maybe I'm still immature haha but I haven't laughed at a film like this for a long time, don't make them like this anymore thats for sure

DVD

Old Blu-ray (2013?)

2025 Blu-ray

UHD/4K

In terms of sync:

- Old Blu-ray: 584 ms more than 2025 Blu / UHD/4K (the last two have the same sync)
- DVD: 910 ms less than the old Blu-ray.

That new Blu looks soooo good, might buy the 4K just for that! But will wait and see if it gets a 4K release elsewhere

Save us, Arrow!

Reminds me of the similar issue we faced with The Silence of the Lambs from Kino.

Is it a color issue or is it like Summer Wars where some people praised it but others saw it super dim, where the whites were gray?

I still don't think the 4k looks like, what I would consider, bad. It just doesn't look quite as saturated. Either way, that new Blu-ray looks great and I'll probably keep my pre-order for that as I don't have the original BD.

It's not bad, it's just unfortunate it could've looked better in my opinion and the 4k seems darker than I remember the film looking. I have the disc and watched it so just throwing my opinion out there

Yeah those screens dont look horrible enough to freak out about for me. Ill keep my preorder. I'm now worried about how this movie is going to hold up for me because it was one of my favorites as a kid.

Yeah, it doesn't really look bad. I think if we had no past references to a more colorful transfer we might not even think anything was amiss here. Since it's the entire film, one could probably just adjust some settings to get it to look more colorful, and it'd be an okay compromise.

I did contact SF yesterday, and I still encourage others to do the same. I'll post if I get any meaningful response back.

I’ll keep my order, and if Arrow releases one, sell off the Shout one.

Hate doing that though - lose money after shipping and eBay fees (if I can’t sell it on this site).

Sampled and A/B’d both discs quite a bit. The Shout Blu-ray is a revelation compared to the WB Blu - but it exhibits noticeable compression. The stereo audio track is heavily filtered for some reason on both new discs.

The 4K gives more detail and has better compression but the skin tones and colors seem strongly desaturated and don’t look quite right next to the Shout Blu-ray or the WB disc. I believe it may possibly be a color space encoding issue (perhaps graded in one color format and converted improperly at the encoding stage?)

The best way I can describe the 4K disc is to state the entire film now looks like it was shot on a cloudy/overcast day, even in brightly lit outdoor scenes that shine on the Blu-ray.

Dolby Vision vs HDR didn’t seem to make a marked difference in the onscreen desaturation.

I have a feeling this won’t be recalled. For me this is a rare instance where I would choose the BD over the 4K simply because of the color space issue.

That's enough for me to not buy it.
That's why I didn't like THE CROW 4K and sold it right away.

Take a look at what THE DOLLARS TRILOGY are going for used.
I bought mine the 1st time they were sale priced at $17.99.
So if I wanted to sell mine it would $10 each and hope. That's a big loss.

I’m scared to look! Ha. I will be selling those when the Arrow trilogy arrives in August.

If it’s not a fairly rare 4k steelbook, something with a rare slip, or some expensive import, chances are you’re going to be selling at a loss.

Seelling BDs? Shoot - might as well give them away!
