One of the ridiculous HT magazines actually gave the HD DVD a better PQ rating than the BD.

It's identical, bit for bit. Exactly the same

Come on Wicky...BD has an aura that just makes movies look better, even with the same encode.

I am shocked to hear that come out of your mouth. But, carrying the wieght that you do, I have to believe it. But what about the sound?

I suppose lots of movies encoded with VC1 on 30gb HD-DVD would look identicle to blu-ray with the same encode. Assuming that the extra space on blu-ray is all extra's, and not used to improve pic quality. But c'mon, that bit rate has to make a difference - even a small one.

Why? It's common knowlege that Warner recycles their HD DVD compression for Blu-Ray. MS even wrote a tool that just goes in and changes the block size to fit Blu.

That's not what I said. I said that 300 on Blu's video is identical to HD DVD, not that doing Blu-centric encodes can't improve things

So when I bought 300 on blu-ray, I bought something that was made for HD-DVD? I feel so dirty now.

of course it is better on blu... when i put hddvd version in my ps3, it shows "unable to procede due to a low average bitrate of fbi warning message" )))

Yes, that is why so many of us have such very mixed feelings about Warner. Unfortunately, since August 20, it has been necessary to hold our tongues.

I have to agree. If they went blu-ray exclusive, they might not even bother trying to improve the quality. But it would be one more nail in the coffin of HD-DVD. Sacrifices have to be made.

I am afraid that you are just wrong on this point. As WW says, it is well known that Warner gives us exactly the same picture they give the red side.

So do you want the blu pill or the red pill? Take the blu pill and see how far the rabbit hole really goes?

I thought it was the red pill that was the one in the Matrix for the showing of the rabbit hole...

it is, I think it said " Take the blue pill the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.

I think a better quote for blu-ray would be " I know what you're thinking, 'cause right now I'm thinking the same thing. Actually, I've been thinking it ever since I got here. Why oh why didn't I take the BLUE pill?
