I’d be very pleased if these came individually in 3 of those super thin cases (like what the BFI’s Akerman vol. 1 set used) each with the cover of the regular 4Ks:

..then with a slip that also utilises that main logo design. It’s absolutely iconic and such a strong bit of design imo I absolutely love it and even though I’m still not 4K capable, the US JP 4K was the first title I imported via Amazon when I started buying discs in 2022 because I couldn’t not have the film with this cover
[Show spoiler](strangely I’ve had a UK trilogy set on blu ray that I checked yesterday is from 2011 since around 2015 that I was given as I suppose a sort of joke/random birthday present from a friend, despite at the time (and again not until 2022) not having any tray or drive that could take any sort of disc, let alone a blu ray)

Amazon used the languages from the old UHDs there, just like they did with the steelbook edition which is not corect.

Can someone give me the short rundown cause I'm confused.

These have new scans compared to the original trilogy collection and the individual releases (which were the same releases as the box set I believe)?

And the short of it is the first film and third are superior on these new discs?

Is anyone else experiencing this glitch in DV during the end credits of TLW, where some of the credits come up as green for a split second before turning back to orange?

[Show spoiler]

This doesn’t happen in HDR10.

None of these new discs had any restoration done. Most everything comes to minor tradeoffs from what I've seen. JP1 has slightly better color grading than the original UHD and SLIGHTLY improved grain, but since JP1 didn't exactly have bad color or grain management, I guess whether the new disc is worth it is up to you. JP2 appears to have had DNR added to it in spots, for some weird reason. I don't think anyone really likes JP3, so I haven't seen a ton of opinions between discs on that one. LOL!

The detail is sharper with the mild filtering of the first UHD rolled back, but it's literally nose-to-the-screen type stuff, tiny geometric things in the background. Grain looks the same on both in motion, very finely rendered. Colour's been tweaked as we know, the magenta's been tuned out during the Badlands opening but that's about it in terms of blatant changes. Funny thing is it looks a lot paler there now! There is slightly less pink here and there throughout the rest of the show, this helps the jungle greens look livelier and reds stand out more as a result. Skin tones too can look warmer in certain shots of the new one.

The HDR grade is verr similar between both, just a nice balance between light and dark, with no difference in black levels. Compression's fine but then it was on the first UHD.

They've fixed the stabilisation goofs on Hammond in the caravan and the weird bit with the hidden dissolve to the truly madly dupey looking shot of the lawyer in the jeep talking to Hammond has also been fixed.

So...minor upgrade is minor. They've tidied up a couple of transfer-related goofs from the first UHD and tweaked the colour grade, with an extra tickle of detail on top. Most of what people like or dislike about this transfer was there already, it's just been given a final layer of refinement.

I`m so disenchanted with this release between the sound issues with JP1 the scrubbing of Lost World the terrible glitch in JP3 and the radio silence from Universal despite my three emails. This is why I wish all releases were handled by boutique labels. At least they seem to listen and address their issues. The fact that this set is still on the market for people to buy is downright immoral as it is a defective product.

I`m conviced there is an issue with the new sound mix. When the raptor smashes through the glass as the group are escaping up the ladder into the vents the sound of the glass is almost mono for a second. It something I`ve never noticed before and I`ve been trying to convince myself it`s just part of the new mix but it`s so jarring to my ears and it`s something I`ve never noticed the past 32 years of watching this movie.

Might as well just wait for the 9-Film Collection since Rebirth is kickstarting a new trilogy. Heck, that one might coincide with the 40th Anniversary, which means... another reworked disc for JP1. Yeah, I'll just wait for that.

This is why I bought the original singles of the first 6 films, which I've been able to enjoy since release. I knew they would revisit this franchise no matter what they said, so now I can just buy the singles of the next 3+, and any worthwhile upgrades that come along instead of waiting for some definitive box set that may never exist.

That's quite... poor. The metal door (?) background doesn't really make sense for these, but it could be a lot worse, I guess. Odd they zoomed in the logo too
