I think the classic animated series has a pretty cool take on Splinter's origin.

It does, in many ways, make sense that he may have been a human before.

Is it me, or does human Splinter look like Sonny Chiba?

I was 8 when this movie came out, but I still remember that getting a big laugh from the audience in the theater.

Watched the "Turtle Power" documentary on the advise of a few of you on here (it's on Paramount+) and it was very good. Wish they would have spent a little more time discussing the 2nd and 3rd movie, but it's easy to tell how they (Eastman and Laird) felt about it.

Shame those two had a falling out but it happens. What matters is what they gave us and lord knows childhood me got swept up in turtlemania like the rest of you.

Lucky you. I had a friend back then who was so obsessed with the Turtles that it actually put me off of them, he was that obnoxious about it.

Did you compare the turtles to Samurai Pizza Cats to him one day in order to free yourself from his social terror chamber?

I experienced this more in Middle School / High School where a kid would love a certain musician/band so much, I would unfairly hate said musician / band.

A girl who I found extra irritating LOVED U2 to the point that I unfairly despised the band for some time.

The Fathom event has been a big success so Fathom/Warner have decided to re-release the second movie in theaters next March:
Quote:
Fathom Entertainment‘s 35th anniversary rerelease of New Line’s 1990 movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cleared a good first week of $3.3 million, and exhibitors have asked, and will now receive, a second week of play of the costumed character pic.

But there’s more: Given the excitement over the first movie based on the Eastman & Laird 1980s comic book, Fathom, Saga Arts and Warner Bros are now planning to rerelease the 1991 sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze in March 2026.
Quote:
”The devoted fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise have shown up in droves with so much passion and enthusiasm in celebration of the iconic film’s 35th anniversary, Fathom Entertainment is thrilled to extend its theatrical run for a third time and add an additional full week in select theatres until August 28. Even better, we have confirmed with our partners that Fathom is bringing back the 1991 sequel to the big screen in March 2026,” Fathom CEO Ray Nutt said. “With $3.3M in box office revenues for the opening week of its theatrical return engagement, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 35th Anniversary is currently the highest-grossing 2025 classic/repertory film for Fathom Entertainment.”

Watch the episode of "The Toys That Made Us" devoted to TMNT and you'll see that they've made up.

This is awesome. I watched the first one in the theater yesterday and had a blast. I was the only one in the theater and it made the viewing a lot more special. I felt like I was in the theater on March 30th, 1990 all over again. What a fun experience.

As someone who's probably been to over 100 Fathom Events for classic films over the past several years, (and its ALWAYS only for 2 days) the fact that Ninja Turtles has done well enough to warrant extended screenings AND NOW they're gonna do part 2 is both insane to witness, and a joy/high-five to my inner child lol.

I didn't read the article but yesterday I did see a headline that said something about how older movies playing in theaters is starting to get more traction than ever before. So yeah, this is a big W for someone like me who gets out to these things as much as possible.
