Does it really? Was it a new scan? Because WHAT the F did they do to that release lmao? That looks obscenely bad in a lot of scenes at just caps. I can't imagine it looks great in motion.

Not going to lie either I would have went between the two personally for saturation at least. The grain seems all over the place between the two scans. I'm not quite sure what to think of it. If the scans are so wildly different I guess.

But that doesn't just look like encode to me. It looks like filtering of some sort too.

BUT YOU DO in fact have a saturation slider. And it's not absurdly undersaturated like Ace Ventura. It has that old slasher vibe if you ask me. Maybe push it up 4 notches when I get around to watching it here soon.

Yes, finally. A 4K release that will at long last do it justice far beyond what’s been done before. Rejoice. Bye forever, horrific SF artwork. Hello, Fidelity in Motion. I can’t wait to hold the baby in my arms.

It's not any deliberate filtering. The base layer encode is a contorted pulsing mess which is turning the grain into digital sludge, as per the usual bias of autopilot encodes which de-prioritise the bright areas of the image where so much of the grain lives.

God, I really hope FiM get a crack at Curse, H20 and Resurrection.

And yet their Halloween II UHD encode is fine, glitchy tits aside. But as none of it takes place in daylight, unlike the first one, then it'd look betterer even if encoded using the same settings as the first.

As far as I can tell most who complain about the Shout! releases fall into 2 categories: 1, everything from Shout! sucks and 2, don't have Dolby Vision.

I'm assuming the Aussie release will be the same as Lions Gate, since Imprint's track record seems to usually used what's already available most of the time. Rarely, if at all, hear of them going out of the way of doing remasters or what have you. I doubt they'll use Shout!, but who knows? After all, Shout!'s was approved by cinematographer Dean Cundey.

Cundey also approved the 35th Anniversary transfer.

I don't think he knows what Halloween is supposed to look like any more.

Imprint is using the original camera negative. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the Lionsgate 4K is from the interpositive.

It's more of the fact that since Dean Cundey approved the Shout! release, that Imprint, if they have a choice in the matter, would most likely attempt to get that for their release. Which be no different than if Shout! got a director's or whoever else worked on the movie approval.

So, assuming you're correct on Lions Gate. That would mean they're using Shout!'s or at least the elements they used. We'll find out the it comes out.

They're using the Shout master. It's been confirmed.
