The first two random editions in the quoted post are airing as scheduled, followed by: - the 22nd June, 1978 edition (presented by David 'Kid' Jensen), airing at 10.35 pm - 11.05 pm. I think it's being shown in tribute to Ozzy Ozbourne because Black Sabbath were on this edition. Note: Tonight's BBC Four schedule is subject to change. |

The first Bond film title track to have a music video was apparently All Time High by Rita Coolidge (from Octopussy). So before I watched the second of last Friday night's two random editions of TOTP, using logic, For Your Eyes Only by Sheena Easton had to be either a studio performance or a promo video. It turned out it was the majority of the film's title sequence.
The Specials with Ghost Town on the same edition was an archive studio performance. I remember (from maybe the Story of 1981 documentary) that the group split up after their last appearance in the TOTP studio. It reminds me of something similar with The Beat (they appeared in the studio with a cover of the Andy Williams song Can't Get Used to Losing You then the group split up). |

I noticed with the early-nineties editions of TOTP when Stanley Appel was the producer (and if not that, they seemed to be the showrunner) that more artists were singing live and not miming to a backing track. Based on the non-skipped editions, when Simple Minds returned to the TOTP studio instead of a music video being shown, the lead singer mimed. And it happened again in the second of the two late-nineties editions this evening (it's something that can at times annoy me).
I am finding more and more now that if there is a song I don't like on the late-nineties editions I'll fast-forward through it (no ifs, no buts). Much preferring the random editions, especially lately. |

Yesterday evening's two late-nineties editions I didn't fast forward so much compared to the last few weeks. Savage Garden miming to a backing track aside (they didn't look and sound like they were singing live to me), there were a few tracks that stood out:
Whine and Grine - Prince Buster Kiss the Rain - Billie Myers and Here's Where the Story Ends - Tin Tin Out feat. Shelly Nelson. |

Also being repeated on BBC Four on Friday 12th September, 2025 is one random edition of TOTP:
- the 15th September, 1988 edition (presented by Simon Mayo & Peter Powell), airing at 9.50 pm - 10.20 pm. Found this out from the BBC website page for the repeats of the show earlier. Note: BBC Four schedule is subject to change. Comment: I think this may have been the last edition of TOTP that Peter Powell presented before he left the BBC (I've only seen this edition once before and that was a few years ago when BBC Four first repeated it). Also, this should be the last week affected by this year's Proms season as the Last Night of the Proms is the following day (Saturday 13th September). |

The first of the two late-nineties editions of TOTP shown on BBC Four yesterday evening (the 1st May, 1998 edition) saw the show get a new logo, theme tune and titles.
Watched tonight the random edition repeated again on the channel last night (from 30th August, 1979). No flashing lights on the scale of the mid to late-nineties editions, nostalgia, and you could chill out to it (highlights for me were The Bellamy Brothers, Sister Sledge, Gary Numan, The Commodores, The Specials and The Stranglers).
