Did you see him in Baragaki? He was fairly good there as well. He's become a sort of go-to for modern samurai films and TV. If you have Prime, he is Oda Nobunaga in the 'What Will You Do, Ieyasu' taiga drama that's on there.

Nobuhiko Obayashi's The Island Closest To Heaven (1984) coming to Blu-ray from Cult Epics on November 25th. According to their YT description, there will also be an exclusive website edition.

Based on Katsura Morimura's 1966 best-selling travelogue, Obayashi's paradise-laden coming-of-age tale is an island retreat to the white sands of New Caledonia. Fulfilling her late father's (YMO's Yukihiro Takahashi) dream to take her to "the island closest to heaven," bookish teen Mari (Tomoyo Harada) ventures solo to the archipelago's indigo waters in search of this mythic locale. Taking in the island's sites, Mari journeys off the beaten path, befriending a host of friendly locals in the process, from islander Taro (Ryoichi Takayanagi) to footloose tour guide Yuichi. One of Obayashi's breeziest features, filled with a sense of old school Hollywood romanticism, The Island Closest to Heaven forms an affecting portrait of a young girl's journey to self-discovery and her own piece of heaven deep within.

Cult Epics do indeed have web exclusive versions of the two previous Obayashi releases, both limited to 500 copies. They have reversible slips and a postcard included. They don't yet have a page up for The Island Closest to Heaven though.

Also, not sure what the HELL is going on with Cinema Guild and the Shinji Somai films. They months MONTHS ago in a random podcast that they would be releasing Moving on 4K, but silence from their social media and they keep posting stuff about the films, but nothing about physical releases. They haven't released anything on physical in awhile.

They have four of his films without releases at this point. If people could e-mail them to ask what's going on, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Man, I'm BEYOND ecstatic that Takashi Ishii is getting some love over here in the US. First Freeze Me, and now the four Nami films? Hopefully the Gonin films and Black Angel films are not too far beyond from someone.

I placed an order on 8/31 and have not received any kind of shipping notification. I emailed them twice (two different email addresses) to inquire, but haven't heard anything back. I'm hoping they're just slow to ship...

I have. I ordered His Motorbike, Her Island. No shipping notification. Just showed up a month or so before release date.

Do they ship usps? If so you can check informed delivery on the usps app.
