spike lee and clive barker were not negligent omissions, i purposely did not include them bc i didn't think they'd get enough votes. peter jackson i had on, so i'm surprised that he is not on there right now? the only thing i can think of is when i added more names, i must have thought that i already included him. i guarantee a lot of ppl would vote for him (and quite rightly). so, he is the one director i will admit a made a mistake in omitting, even if it was bc of a technical screw-up.

you could easily make a poll of 100 directors, bc everyone has a favorite, but i included the ones that i thought would get more than one vote a piece.

I will say this, Shyamalan is a very talented director, he is just a poor screenwriter.
U shouldnt predict whenu make a poll!! U could be surprised man!! Got Em!!

Again u already deciding who will get votes!! I mean this is a very big and broad category and if u are gonna do it u should list more, unless like I do in my replys in the beginning I usually explain why or why not to not include someone etc.. but its good mane no skin off my back!! Got Em!!

Great thread, jhiggy. I remember discussing The Fountain with you in the retrospect thread and it was great. Senseless criticisms on Fountain being your favorite movie...? I can back you up on that one. By the way, I blind-bought The New World a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end, although I did not know what to expect.

I voted Tarantino, although I have a handful of favorites. Danny Boyle, Guillermo Del Toro, Robert Rodriguez, and Paul W.S. Anderson are my faves interchangeably.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Michael Mann are up there and also make fantastic movies that I love.

As far as omissions, I would agree that Lumet and Zwick should have been on there, as well as Boyle, but it is a good list nonetheless.

Perfect example of why I love being on this site. Hallstrom is a great director who a lot of ppl don't know by name but know his films: Chocolat, Cider House Rules, What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Nice pick FindYourWay.

I voted for Alfred Hitchcock, although Billy Wilder, Otto Preminger, John Ford, and Akira Kurosawa are high on my list as well.

South Korea I voted "Other"

I realize that this is a revived thread, but I'm amazed at the lack of Korean directors being mentioned.
Here's a few that come to mind:

Bong Joon-ho
Hong Sang-soo
Kim Ji-woon
Kim Ki-duk
Lee Chang-dong
Ryoo Seung-wan

& my vote for favorite movie director: Park Chan-wook

No Takashi Miike either or Sion Sono, on the list provided though I voted for Stanley Kubrick, I would of voted for him anyway even if those other directors were on it. Out of all his films I rate them higher than any other directors. It was a great moment in life knowing you're favourite horror film, favourite sci-fi film and favourite war film were all directed by the same person.

Kind of a tough one for me. On the one hand, I was a huge Spielberg fan growing up and loved his films. But in the late-90s, as he started changing as a director and I was losing interest in his newer output, I began discovering the films of John Carpenter, of which only certain ones I'd seen growing up, and I became a huge fan of his. These days I've fallen so far behind in following Spielberg's films, but his early work had such a huge impact on my childhood and helped to form my love of film. Plus, Jurassic Park was the movie that inspired me to pursue filmmaking and study it in college.

So I ultimately voted for Spielberg, but Carpenter is such a close second that it could have just as easily been him.

Lots of others on there who have films I enjoy as well, and also plenty whose work I've never seen.
