This is actually good news. The only other site I knew of that did this stopped organizing by aspect ratio so it's nice to have a working one again. The thing is that my list is a list compiled not just by aspect ratio, but by physically seen confirmation/eyes. Many movies are listed with a certain aspect ratio but are displayed in another. My list is compiled with many of those.
But this added search feature should be very helpful though!

Thank you for verifying the facts of this movie. on

And that movie would be a good addition to the list if you can confirm it so thanks for that as well!

My mistake, yes Big Trouble in Little China is 2.40:1 and does not qualify for the list. I bought it with Predator and watched a few minutes of both the day I bought them and confused them together.

The Great Buck Howard - 1.85:1
I Love You, Man - 1.78:1
Miss March - 1.85:1 (awful movie, though )
New in Town - 1.78:1
Role Models - 1.85:1
Sling Blade - 1.85:1

The above post just reminded me - Friday the 13th Part 2 is also in 1.85:1 (or maybe open matte 1.78:1, my TV has bad enough overscan I can't tell).

Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3-D, however, is scope.

Can't believe I didn't already say this - the original Black Christmas (1974) is at 1.78:1 (a little bit more picture on top and bottom than in theaters). I own it and can totally confirm it.

The Amityville Horror (1979 version) is also at 1.85:1 - it says 2.35:1 on the back of the box, but that's a load of lies. Own it and watch it often.

awesome UFAlien! really awesome! I love putting blurays that say differently on the box because that's what makes my list unique and extraordinary, and it makes you, contributers, also unique and extraordinary in my eyes! Thank you very much! I'll put 'em up!

I saw your post..didn't really go back through all the movies but here are some I found. I don't know if you already have what I've got. I haven't seen all of them so I can't say how good/bad they are. I just went through one shelf to see what I had.

Midnight Express
Rio Bravo
Replicant
Reindeer Games (Canada)
Reds 25th Anniversary Edition
The Reader
Running Scared (Canada)

If you need more, let me know. I have plenty of movies to check out for you.

Spider-Man. But does it qualify since it only comes in the trilogy boxset and the other 2 are 2:35... and gorgeous black bars?

Spider-Man is 1.85:1, so it technically also has black bars.

The Godfather films should be on this list, though it pains me that such great films would find themselves on a list for people who care more about the shape of a movie than the movie

Am I the only one who thinks the premise of this thread is asinine?

While I do applaud the OP for trying to compile this list, I'm a lot more concerned with the quality of the movie and the transfer than I am whether or not it will fill up my entire TV.

I want my stuff in the OAR, and if that means not filling up the entire TV space, so be it.

No, you're not. But to each his own, I suppose.

This thread is also redundant since you can always do a filtered search by aspect ratio here:
http://www.blu-raystats.com/Stats/TechStats.php

We don't really need people hunting through their collections if they really need this info. A 2 second search will take care of it.

Hello, I'm new here, first post. I'm an old TV engineer with a great interest in Blu-ray. This thread is all about the different ways people prefer to watch TV.

I'd like to throw out a comment about my experience with BDs of old 1.33:1, 4:3 films. They display almost correctly on 16:9 HD sets with a sort of correct 1.33:1 aspect ratio, but not at all correctly on 4:3 sets.

In fact if you try this at home you will find that BD 4:3 films display perfectly square on a 4:3 set, pillar-boxed if you will.

This is very frustrating if you happen to own a 4:3 HD set or projector because the film is being displayed in the wrong aspect ratio. To wit, the Tin Man in the new 70th anniversary release of OZ looks *very* tall and skinny.

I think the disks are being authored incorrectly because the pan and scan mode on the player that would normally fix this problem does not work at all with these 1.33:1 films on BD.

Anyone else tried this already and know how to get a 4:3 picture on a 4:3 display?

Thanks,

Cliff.
