So I will do away with the TV and stand and put it on the other side of the basement as a "game room" type environment for my son. Now thing is, the TV stand is what keeps all my components right now so should I build somekind of little stage (platform) with 2X4's ? Another stand will probably get in the way of the screen since it's going to be maybe 6-8 inches from the wall and takes the full wall. If I do build a stage, should it come out far enough for the speakers to be on it or keep the speakers on the floor ? Decisions, decisions.
Is there a way to have an a/v rack-tower towards the back where your sub is? Cut a whole in the wall and make a closet area for it? You could then curtain things off and give it a 'theater' feel like myself and others have.

Well the only place I can see is a space on the left wall where the baseboard heater is (which is coming out Wed by the way). But then it would stick out on the other side and it's a space between the stairs which is full of junk. It's like a storage area. It would be cool but not sure I could pull that off since I do have a rack but it's 24" wide and the studs are 16" apart. The last thing I need now is to spend more money on an AV rack when i have all this equipment on order waiting to come in. Wouldn't it also get hot as hell in there ?

Well if it is full of junk....I'd say do it....if you could get vents on the other side also that would help...maybe some antec cooling fans...etc. I'm sure there is a way to make it look decent. You could always get a smaller screen so the stand wouldn't be covering it...but who wants that?

When I was reading this on my Blackberry I almost fell over !!! Smaller screen ? Are you insane LOL. Just teasing. I'll think about the closet thing and see if I can swing it somehow, but I'm still wondering how a platform would perform especially if I fill it with insulation like I did the riser. It might act as a bass trap at the front of the room. Right now I'm passing a LAN cable to the other side of the basement and then I'll move the TV and stand and ponder a lot on my choices

If you know me....than the smaller screen thing you'd realize was pure sarcasm. I would find a way to make the closet thing work is what I'd do.

If it's not a load bearing wall, then cutting one of the studs and putting cross members would be quite easy, especially if the storage area is unfinished.

Oh crap, now that you mention it, it's a support wall for the metal beam that runs across the house.

Alright so I decided that for now I will try and fit a rack I already have behind the screen. I will also make a riser something like I did for my sub for my center channel. I will make it a size to accomodate the Studio CC-690 even though I don't have it yet. So tonight I am putting sconces on the back walls, putting 2 plugs on the ceiling (1 for projector, 1 for screen), and taking out that heater on the left wall. Don't need it as it gets hot enough in there and I already heat with gas a it is.

Metal beams usually do not need a support wall. If anything, they usually have one or two metal posts holding it from dipping/sagging. A wall can be used to hide them, but the wall itself is not usually doing anything for a metal beam.

Wow, you have done alot since I have seen your set-up last Gates, nice job on the riser for the couch and the sub. Did you find a new couch for the front row yet?

I am joining the ranks as my new projector is being delivered this Friday 10/2. I was wondering about your speakers being behind the screen....you haven't noticed any ill effect from this? I am getting a pull down screen to put in front of my LCD like you, so any info you can throw back would be helpful. Nice job by the way!

This the best pick i can find before construction of my HT. That's the only metal post and as far as I was told, the rest of the wall is like a support. I'm not in any way, shape, or form a "builder" or contractor. I just get by with the little I know.

Thanks Forsberg ! Ya getting the same type couch but a 3 seater this Saturday. Was supposed to get it last week but was backorder. My new Paradigm 60's and 20's v5 coming in either Friday or Monday as per the dealer. With the work I'll be doing tonight I'll be almost all set for the ceiling !

Congrats on the projector ! You'll never be able to watch a normal TV again LOL. It wasn't the ideal setup with the speakers behind the screen but i had to deal with that at the time. The sound was still good only because there was space between the wall and the screen, but the imaging was not that great. BUT, with the new 60's which are like an inch less wide or something like that, they will fit in front I'd advise against putting them behind unless you have no choice like me.

That's what I was talking about. My family owned a construction company growing up and I built my share of houses. What you ar showing in that picture is in no means a wall that has no weight bearing traits. You should be fine in cutting a stud for the 24" rack.

As a precaution (and maybe make your mind at ease), I would add a stud on teh 24" end (in between the stud you would need to cut and the next one). Cut the studs about an inch and a half larger than you need so you can put your "header" and "sill" to the "window" opening you would be creating for your rack.

Again, if the back is open and unfinished, this is a piece of cake job to do.

Good luck!

The back has drywall but it's still bare (no joints, no paint). I will make it a project of mine in a few months since I'll have to buy other wires and such and my cash is all going on gear and furniture right now Thanks for the tips Lou !

Thanks Gates. My screen should fit between my fronts with only 1-2 inches to spare (my speakers are like yours, where they are as far apart as they can be with the walls there), so I need to be spot-on when I put up the projector......

A lot of projectors have lens shift so you don't really have to be spot on. Mine is not completely centered and I just adjust afterwards with the lens.

I will probably need a 12" horizontal shift and virtually nothing vertically, as I am using the shelf behind my couch. The 1-2 inches I was referring to was the "give" I have in between the speakers without blocking them, which I really don't want to do for obvious reasons.

Thats a crying shame! Time to take a break and sit back a little. I think I saw in one of your pics a beer, so why not kick back and open a cold one, or two.....or why not three?
