Does anyone have a link that includes all of the cities participating in the 2016 Olympics (or hosting that is) I know when Cincinnati was up for consideration one year, that included parts of N. KY, Columbus, Dayton, etc.....

When I got home from work and saw this headline, I was very disheartened. I was really pulling for the United States to get another Olympic games. Oh well, I'm sure we'll get another one soon. Best of luck to Rio de Janeiro, I hope everything goes well for them.

Whatever that means.... I'm happy for Rio as has already been said here, this is the first Olympic games to be held in South America and only the second in the Souther Hemisphere. ![]() |

By all means, congratulations to Rio for getting the opportunity to host the Olympics. But just because an Olympics has not been hosted in South America is a fallacious reason to host one in South America. It's a false cause and somewhat of an appeal to pity. |

It's like when someone else gets a gift. You can be as happy for them getting that gift as you would be for yourself and that's how I feel for Rio. And it's due in no small part to the fact that the entire continent they inhabit hasn't had a games there ever. You can call it pity, you can call it whatever, but I guarantee the IOC had that in mind when Rio won in what was really a landslide and there's nothing wrong with that. I mean, for goodness sakes, they beat the highest populated city in the world. After I heard the final 4 nominees, I didn't think there was much hope for Chicago. |

![]() I'm all for the US getting the Olympics but Chicago couldn't have been a worse choice. I've lived here all my life and I know how things work around here. All that $$$ that Olympics would bring in would somehow disappear. Everyone who lives in Chicago and Cook County would be left with the bill. Ever been to Chicago? There's not enough room for the Olympics. You'd have the athletes, trainers, media, crews, spectators etc mixed in with an already congested city. While our traffic isn't as bad as LA, ours is bad enough. Getting to arenas in the suburbs is no quick trip either. All the "prestige" of the Olympics wouldn't be worth it. |

To answer your question, yes I've been to Chicago. However, that is irrelevant. It doesn't matter to me what city or what state was the location choice to be up for the Olympic choice. Chicago was just being the representative for the United States.

I believe the reason why Chicago lost the bid and lost it really bad, was because of all the negative publicty it and Illinois has been getting over the last 2-3 years! Hmmm...where do I begin.....Drew Peterson, 2 corrupt Governors(one indicted and the other awaiting trial), countless murders including the most recent of a high school honor student, grave robbers in the the south west burbs, state and city budget defecit, NIU campus shooting(remeber that??), the CTA is in trouble and a partridge in a pear tree ![]() ![]() |

We, americans gave the world Obama, Oprah, Jordan (nba bulls), and deep dish pizza; only to be rejected. Hey world, your loss. Chicago has great dining, culture, theatre, ocean-type city views, every major pro-sports teams, nightlife, shopping, celebrities, fine dining, tallest building, and so much more. No deep dish pizza for you, world!

I think it's wonderful that the games get spread around to the various continents. We in N.A. have certainly had our fair share of both the Summer & Winter Olympics.
Since 1960 (as was posted) the U.S. and Canada have had a total of 8 combined games, including the upcoming 2010 Vancouver Winter Games. I'd say that's that a pretty impressive number. Would I like to see more here.....absolutely! And I hope that Toronto submits another bid, because I think that city would be an outstanding host. But that's just a personal opinion. So, good luck to Rio and I hope it is a huge success! John |
