Ok I looked at this again and in fact I could only format to exFAT

Looking online for a solution to format to FAT32, it appears I cant! One of the reasons I got the hard drive was so I could use it on the PS3

Anyone know when exFAT will be supported by the PS3?

Anyone know of a solution for me?

(Using Vista..)

That sucks Garlad! Never even heard of exFAT though. What program did you use to format it?

Just right clicked on the hardrive, hit format, and it gave me the option to format to either NTFS (default) or exFAT.

I would have thought that I would have been able to chose FAT32 - as I'm pretty sure some of my friends have done this with ease.

So p'd off..

I know there's a freeware program you can use, but I can't think of the name. It's very popular. Actually I still have to do that myself, so I'll be following this thread.

I'm finding a few things online, but really not sure what Im at to be honest or if the info I am reading is even relevant..

Have a look at this;

http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/ind...at32format.htm

I have Vista and I want to format my hard drive from it's default setting (NTFS) to FAT32 - should I be following the above??

I'm hoping a tech genius will help me here at blu-ray.com

Way too technical for me Garlad

I typed this "formatting to FAT32 using Vista" in my searchbar, and a whole series of sites came up.

Here is one I found that might help.

Lemme know what you think.

exFAT seems like a FAT32 replacement from XP to Vista from what a quick google search has suggested.

I would suggest finding somebody with XP and using their computer to attach your harddrive and format it on XP, not sure it'll work, but XP supports FAT32 formatting, so in theory, it should work.

IIIRC, XP only supports formatting fat32 up to a certain size, which your portable drive almost certainly exceeds. You'll either need to download a special program to format fat32, or you could download an Ubuntu boot disc, boot your computer off of it, and do your format from there.

This little utility from HP should help, once installed it will only format attached USB storage devices.

I also used this on my 1TB external drive. Works great. I had used swissknife in the past, but this time around it did not work. Windows limit for fat32 is 32Gb I believe.

I suggest going to the vendors website and using one of their tools. For instance if you have a Seagate drive, use Disc wizard. Takes less than a minute to format to fat32. I have done this with a 1.5 TB drive with a single partition.
