Well I bought a Samsung 8500 that's getting delivered on the 13th; I just want to have a backup plan in case that set doesn't work out. I preferably would want a 60" Kuro but I hear the 500M is better than the 600M because 10th gen tech made it's way into the former which gives it much better blacks?

more like ever so slightly deeper blacks. If you want a 60" and u dont need a tuner/speakers go with either the 600M or 141FD

Glad to hear Robert will be sending you out another panel. I'm sure that's some relief after staring at that cracked screen thinking "damn, i can't believe i signed off on this".

VE tried to assure me that it was rare receiving a damaged unit but I rather deal with folks a little closer to home...just in case i have problems down the road. i have the worst luck when it comes to getting a lemon. i'm better off getting the extended warranties with big purchases.

Why did you buy a Samsung if you think you may need a "backup plan"? It sounds like you are having buyers remorse already

There are a few people who got bad units with clouding issues. I'm not going to play the return game till I get a good one.

Heat generation is a main concern of mine, so my choice was obvious to me.

Haha, you must live in a sunny state. The fact that these plasmas get so hot is actually a plus for me! TV room will be nice and warm when winter (supposed to snow tomorrow ) hits.

I should get my stand today, and shall post pics when it arrives. And I hope I'm not going to have to play that return game for very long. Still worried about that, but you can't do much about it.

I understand, I didn't know the Sammys had that problem. I don't really mind the heat since it gets cold here in PA.

Plasma does use more power and generate more heat compared to some other technology. The Pioneer Elite Signature series (PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD) temperature specs located on page 83 in the operating manual say the operating temperature is between +32 degrees F to +104 degrees F with less then 85% RH humidity. I have not checked the other models but they might have the same or similar operating temperature. That is a excellent operating temperature that some other brands can not match. The 60 inch PRO-141FD even has internal fans that turn on when one gets close to the 104 degree room temperature mark. If the surrounding temperature is over 104 degrees and/or the internal temperature is to warm there is a self protection circuit in the Pioneer plasma that automatically shuts off the panel. Very will engineered.

UPS showed up at my door when I was at work, and Audio Exchange (the place where I bought my stand) requires a signature. Next stop is going to be Monday - and I'll be out of town. After you miss X number of drops, does the package just stay at the UPS place and you have to pick it up?

Well guys I picked up my replacement 500M today at R+L's trucking terminal. The people refused to let me inspect the panel before signing for it, so I called Robert at ValueElectronics and he spoke to the people. They still refused to let me inspect it. Finally Robert said just sign it so you can open the box. It was in perfect shape no cracks So right now I am running the break in slides and all is well Big Thanks to Robert from ValueElaectronics.com

Not yet. Still no call from Icat, and as best I can tell it's en route.

Hopefully they don't send it back...Might have to call UPS to find out about that.

And congrats on the working set! Big burden lifted there.

Glad to hear that, Sarge. Are you breaking it in with any particular settings?

Yeah, DNice posted some settings for the 500M and 600M on AVS, It's a really torched up "Sport" mode. 3 hours down, 147 to go

So are you going to break-in for 6 days straight, or give it some rest time?

I plan to break mine in and use D-Nice's Pure settings. Are you using any specific settings just for the break-in or are you just using a default mode like "pure"?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm still new to the world of Kuro.
