Hmm. wHe told me it was $200. Could've been wrong though. All I know is that he went with a Slim.

Lucky for me i have a store in new york that fixes PS3's for the same price sony does. if mine ever breaks (knock on wood) i can just take it there and get it back the next day.
I think it has to do with the switch in back, if you continue to shut down your ps3 and flip the switch while the HDD is shutting down then I think that maybe the problem. Well that is how my unit ylod over a year ago, my new ps3 has had no problems and I never turn off the switch in back because of what happened with the first one. Heat may be a factor as well, but mine was sitting on top of the entertainment unit and had nothing around it. Of course everyone's situation for ylod is different so your mileage will vary.

I have mine on top of my dresser as well and it gets dusted once a week. I wouldn't get overly worried. All you can really do is take care of it.

Also there is a game still in the system.
If you really cherish your 60GB for what the current Slim doesn't have (2 additional USB ports, the memory card slots, the PS2 B/C), then I'd do the $150 to have Sony fix it. Either Sony will fix the problem and send your original unit back to you or send you a refurb 60GB. You're also going to get a 90-day warranty with the unit if they are able to fix it and send it back to you. Make sure you jot down your PS3's serial # to see if you get the same unit back if you decide to have Sony fix it. If you want Sony to fix it, give their customer service # a call at 1-800-345-7669 (1-800-345-SONY). Hours are Mon-Sat 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Otherwise, you can just do the extra $150 and pick up a Slim.

My already-YLOD'ed PS3 is going back to Sony a second time to be fixed, only because I really do love the 60GB's benefits. If I get scratch on this fix, I may just have to do a Slim myself...once I get money back in my account

I'll send in my 20gb later, but I picked up a slim, so then I have a backup ps3 now, even though they g/f has a ps3... I could have just stole hers..

Alright, 20gb is setup to go to service whenever I receive my coffin. It was a gamestop refurb in the first place, came from them 3 months after they were released, as someone couldn't sell it on ebay. So hopefully the gamestop refurb sticker on there will help the Sony guys to just fix the damn thing, and not send it back, or give me a new one, as I want all my saves back.

I gave them a BIG reason to give me my old one back and just repair it, and not give me a refurb off the shelf...

Thats good to know as I didn't know how to do that.

Can you explain the purpose of unpairing a controller? When I wanted to pair the controller to my PSP Go, it unpaired itself from my PS3 and went with the PSP. Also I'm sure when you want to pair the controller to another PS3 it will unpair itself from the previous PS3.

Does it have to be unpaired first before you pair it to another PS3? When I had to repair my DS3 to my PS3, all I had to do with hook it up with a USB cable and hit the PS button.

To keep your 5 downloads, yes, if your other ps3 still works then you don't need to. It it more of a thing to do, if you've ever shared games and therefore can't afford a dead ps3 sitting on your account..
