Hi Mike,

Obviously none of us have all of the information on the new amp at this time. But, judging from the others in the UPA series versus the XPA series, I would suspect that the UPA-1 will lack any XLR connectors if having Balanced inputs is of any importance to you in the future.

That's exciting news about the additions to the UPA line. I don't need a monoblock (right now), but the UPA-5 sounds awesome.

Hi John,

The amps in the UPA series are listed as:

Discrete, dual differential class AB amplifier topology with active current sources. That agrees with what I would have concluded based upon the size of the transformer.

John,

I thought that the XPA-1 was an exception to the A/B amps and was a Class H amp.

depends. The UPA-1 will have the same XPA module as the others. But won't have the power supply of the XPA-2 for example.

Rich,

I'm fairly certain the XPA-1 is class A/B as the only class H amps I'm aware of were the IPS, MPS, and RPA series which have been retired.

edit: just saw bigred's post... so I guess there ya have it

Question!

I am totally unfamiliar with EMO's offerings and have never heard them.

How would you describe their sound signature? Are they neutral, coloured...?

True, but I just wonder how independent power sources will perform vs. the XPA-2. I guess we have to wait and see what differences there will be in design, and I wonder if the UPA-1 will have the same transformer size as the UPA-2?

I am dying to get a XPR-7 even though I'll never use all that power. Maybe I'll get it and listen to the music coming out of the house while I'm talking to my neighbor down the block.

I dont understand the whole taxes, charges and what not but would it be cheaper for someone from Canada have someone from the U.S buy 'lets say an Emotiva amp' and ship it to them in Canada? Instead of having to ship it straight from the company. Or would it cost more

it would cost more. Emotiva has gotten a "bargin" from fedex for shipments to Canada.

I would defintely consider them nuetral.

Some people say they are leaning on the bright side....but then when i read their posts further they tend to have speakers that are considered "bright" by the masses so in reality they are hearing what they should be hearing. No sound is colored by the Emo's at least to my ears and i have heard every single emotiva amp on various systems as well as owning several pieces of emotiva gear.

Some people though find out they prefer an amp that colors the sound.

That's the only thing that holds me back from ordering EMO's products. The shipping and duties are outrageous (I know, not their fault). I'd love to hear their stuff, but these two Monoblocks would cost me over $1,000. That's a lot of money for me.
