Default New PS3 SKU with the FCC

Just came across this. Perhaps this will be the 40gig PS3 system that comes out for the holidays?

Heard of what? A 40 gig PS3? There's probably a couple threads on here about it. Rumored to be at TGS, but never happened. Rumor now is this week to throw something up against the Halo 3 release.

Other rumors are a few less USB ports, no backwards compatibility, and maybe a copy of the SPidey 3 BRD packed in.

GARBAGE. A. Nothing about the 40GB has been "confirmed" as the 40GB itself has not been confirmed.

B. No PS3 has no HDMI, this is not the 360. Every PS3 has always had the HDMI 1.3 out of the box, even the 20GB, no reason to assume that the 40GB would be that different.

Just get the 60 and buy an internal HD to upgrade.. you can get more for less that way.

Not having a HDMI would be like coming out with a PS3 without a BLU-drive. Just doesn't make sense.

Gee, maybe they could pack in a VHS copy of Snow White.

I see this sku launching with the dualshock 3 this spring. There is going to be a large software lineup coming out then.

Encouraging a proper use of the language is far more effective than being sarcastic, I believe. All of us here are supporting PS3, after all.

- I thought to pass this along 'cause this story appears to be more solid confirmation of previous stories, which seemed more like rumor to me.

Default Does anyone know about the BR player?

I was told that Sony is thinking about disabling the BluRay player capability in the $399 40GB model so they can concentrate this model for games. The reason being they make better profits/margins on game software vs. movies. Anyone know if this is just a rumor or may this be true?

Disabling the blu ray functionality of a system that requires game discs on blu ray is rather counter productive I would think.

The games are on blu-ray discs...... Anyway I heard that they would take away backwards compatability....

I realize the games are on BD and there will still be a BD player in the unit, I was told (through firmware) that they would disable the movie playing functionality so this unit would really only be a gaming unit and appeal to just gamers, again to try a reap more profit from game software.
