360 is proud. They don't like admitting defeat and they never line pockets of other companies. They either buy you out right or don't deal with you at all.

I agree with most people here, I don't expect the Wii 2 to have a fully functional blu ray drive. Heck even the GC/Wii can't play DVDs and they both have optical drives. How hard would it have been to include a software player on those consoles?

I expect it to be a drive where games are made on blu but can't play movies.

Also I don't see Nintendo lining the pocket of Sony either.

They finally have a huge lead and by doing this, they might alienate some of the user base.

Fair comment.

Exactly what i though, Sony and MS scrabbling to build on the Wii's motion control.

I really wouldn't, this is just a rumour and pure speculation at the moment.

Cool news, and i agree with all of AFROBEANS comments. One thing that worries me is that nintendo has always seemed to put fun factor ahead of graphics, hope this does not change that strategy. My major gripe with PS3/360 is how many worthless games get hyped because they are pretty, and the only fun ones are either sports, or games you play alone or online.

But now they're adding Netflix streaming to the Wii. Things change.

As opposed to the Wii, where *terrible* games get hyped based on having "innovative controls"?

Why does everyone continue to state the that Nintendo is the company that was pushing motion controls, when it has been shown that Sony was working this for a while? Did everyone forget the original Eyetoy?

Nintendo did make it the standard control interface for the console, but the company is getting more credit than it is due. (this is neglecting to acknowledge the powerglove).

If this is true I will gladly trade mine in when the time comes just for a chance to play Mario and Zelda in HD....regardless of whether or not it plays BD movies. I already have a standalone player, a PS3 and plan on getting the Oppo BDP-83 soon so I don't need another player.

I think the 360 eventually will give in and have a blu-ray add on....I doubt it'll come standard on the 360, just so microsoft can make more money by having an add on.

My only "true hopes" for this next Wii is fully digital output audio/video via HDMI, and a hard drive. If it plays Blu-ray movies...well then bonus for us I guess. If it plays a role similar to the PS3 in that it gets Blu-ray technology into the houses of those who normally wouldn't have it, then I'm all for that.

Yes, I will buy one.

But yet they still have DVD playback not enabled. It can be done on the software end, but yet they don't. They could do it any time they want, but it has yet to happen.

I don't think I've heard of a Wii game with hype on it that wasn't made by Nintendo, and if it was made by Nintendo, it wasn't "terrible".

The terrible games on the Wii are the third party ones, and few of them get any attention at all.

I didn't, but I think Sony did, because it received minimal support and no cared about it.

Because it sucked. It didn't add anything to gameplay and was pure gimmick.

And gameplay of that kind will still suck when it comes to this generation. When I sit down to play video games, I don't want to be swatting at crap on the screen. I want to hold a controller and press buttons to control things on the screen. I don't want to burning energy flailing around like a jackass.

ps Wii can do 480p over component. Not as good as 1080p, but it is noticeably better than the 480i from standard composite.

Too little too late, Nintendo. Let me guess, this new console will upconvert old Wii games to 1080p instead of having true HD media. Thanks, but no thanks. Nintendo's just trying to jump on the HD bandwagon even though they're the ones who said the public wasn't ready for HD when they launched the Wii.
In my mind, Nintendo won't earn my support back until they get rid of those god-awful controls. I used to be a Nintendo fanboy and now they've lost all my respect. This rumor of a new console is the one they should've released in place of the Wii/Revolution. The Wii was just a GameCube with a new shell and a new controller. I wish we could get back Nintendo's old president back. At least, when Yamauchi was around, we got some wonderful games and true innovation.

Sony came up with alot of ideas first, not just in the game industry, but the usual sony is slow with everthing so they never take off and others come out with it first. phil harrison admitted this at the game developers conference and some say its the reason why he quit/got fired from sony the next day!

The truth hurts i guess.

Yes yes i agree. i dont believe MS natal and sonys motion controller will be as big as the wii, nintendo has that market locked down.

Ether way, like you said, i dont want to swing anything around when i play games, or pretend i have something in my hand. i'll stick to the original way thank you.

As for the wii2, keep in mind these are the same guys who leaked the original wii specs, so its probably true. the only thing i dont believe is the BD drive. really? nintendo? no way. since when did they care about multimedia functions? the wii sold 50 million+ systems with out any of that so im pretty sure thats not even on their minds. the HD part yes of course. sony and MS are coming out with motion tech next year so they have no choice but to upgrade to HD graphics as to not look inferior.

But if they do come out with a BD drive then thats cool, i rather them than MS.

But does nintendo really want to pay sony or whoever license fees to use it? it doesn't make any sense.

It does when you're only paying royalties for use of the technology (think USB) but are marking up the system like crazy and still making a wicked profit. I'm sure if they go with a BD drive, they'll make it work...and we'll all rush to the store to buy it because we're all Nintendo drones.

I mean, I'm assuming you have a DVD player already, and a Blu-Ray player {given the name of the site and all} plus possible PS3 or 360... do you REALLY need another DVD player?
