BD+ does NOT check online - most standalone players don't have Ethernet access so how could they?.

The load time on the PS3 is not nearly as bad as the load times on the BDP-S1... holy crap, that takes a while. I think Waiting had the worst load time though (I haven't tested these new Fox discs yet). But I think there's going to be a load time no matter what. I can't imagine these Java titles loading as fast as a DVD, it's just too much information.

I would like to see a whitepaper on BD+ and how it works. Is any detailed information available on BD+? I found a presentation from 2006 on BD+ but since I'm at work I don't recall if it had any specific details on BD+ functionality.

I hope Sony releases an update for the PS3; the CELL should be able to handle the BD+ without being slowed down.

Having to go online mandatorily goes against everything that has been always done! Specially considering that some players don't even HAVE a way of connecting to the internet

i sent an email to sony, to see if they are working on a solution for that. i will let you guys know if they reply.

and yes that was my fault, i always thought that BD+ requires internet connection in order to play. but then again, here i am learning a new fact from you guys.

thanks.

There's a million ways to fake it

And considering we don't even know for sure FF2/DAT have BD+, it's confirmed that it was a standard BD-J issue

I got this info from wikipedia but it doesn't mention anything about it going online for verification.

Quote:
BD+ is effectively a small virtual machine embedded in authorized players. It allows content providers to include executable programs on Blu-ray Discs. Such programs can:[16]

* examine the host environment, to see if the player has been tampered with. Every licensed playback device manufacturer must provide the BD+ licensing authority with memory footprints that identify their devices.
* verify that the player's keys have not been changed.
* execute native code, possibly to patch an otherwise insecure system.
* transform the audio and video output. Parts of the content will not be viewable without letting the BD+-program unscramble it.

If a playback device manufacturer finds that its devices have been hacked, it can potentially release BD+-code that detects and circumvents the vulnerability. These programs can then be included in all new content releases.

I just timed it and it takes about 15 seconds to load. So about the same as any other Java title.

not bad. I am wondering does the PS3 have virtual memory, where if you put in lets day after tomorrow the first time it would take longer to load, but anytime you put in the disc afterwards, it wouldn't take as much time as the first.

okay guys here is what i found out about BD+. apparently it doesn't need to go online to check according to this link which explains the basic of BD+.

http://www.cryptography.com/technology/spdc/bluray.html

However, compatibility with BD players will be an issue.

so, what i am wondering about the loading issue. what is contributing to it. is it BD+ or BD-J? Will there be an update for the PS3 in the coming future to solve this issue?.
