I got this info from wikipedia but it doesn't mention anything about it going online for verification.

Quote:
BD+ is effectively a small virtual machine embedded in authorized players. It allows content providers to include executable programs on Blu-ray Discs. Such programs can:[16]

* examine the host environment, to see if the player has been tampered with. Every licensed playback device manufacturer must provide the BD+ licensing authority with memory footprints that identify their devices.
* verify that the player's keys have not been changed.
* execute native code, possibly to patch an otherwise insecure system.
* transform the audio and video output. Parts of the content will not be viewable without letting the BD+-program unscramble it.

If a playback device manufacturer finds that its devices have been hacked, it can potentially release BD+-code that detects and circumvents the vulnerability. These programs can then be included in all new content releases.

I just timed it and it takes about 15 seconds to load. So about the same as any other Java title.

not bad. I am wondering does the PS3 have virtual memory, where if you put in lets day after tomorrow the first time it would take longer to load, but anytime you put in the disc afterwards, it wouldn't take as much time as the first.

I hope Sony releases an update for the PS3; the CELL should be able to handle the BD+ without being slowed down.

Having to go online mandatorily goes against everything that has been always done! Specially considering that some players don't even HAVE a way of connecting to the internet

i sent an email to sony, to see if they are working on a solution for that. i will let you guys know if they reply.

and yes that was my fault, i always thought that BD+ requires internet connection in order to play. but then again, here i am learning a new fact from you guys.

thanks.

Since BD players don't require Ethernet ports or other such ways of getting online, and they must be able to support BD+, clearly BD+ can't need an online check.

BD+ could require a firmware upgrade before allowing a title to play. In which case perhaps for those players that are online, it could point at the right place.

BD+ is the issue that is slowing down the loading time.

I just tried it in my BDP1000 and it just comes up to a circle going around and around and doesn't do anything else. Did yours do this also and then more on?
I was thinking about the disk was bad or my player doesn't support it.
Any ideas?

Contact the support for your player. meanwhile before you do that, exchange the disc and see if you are experiancing the same problem.

Even the first time I put it in, it only took 15 seconds. Even with Fantastic Four (I made sure to pay attention) it loaded in the same ammount of time. So it's not an internal memory thing. I think it's just Java, I don't think it has anything to do with BD+. Is your PS3 updated to the latest firmware?

Don't exchange the disc yet, that's probably not the problem... There is probably a firmware upgrade coming for the player (or there already is one).

yes it is. my other BD films don't take that long to load. however, the FF 2 and day after tomorrow do.

But then why would it load in less than 15 seconds for me and take over 2 minutes for you? We're both using the same PS3's.

Mine loads faster, because I might have a weak lens?
