So let's say Shutter Island were to come out next week. Then after 1 month, the film hits On Demand and digital rentals/download. So you could pay $20 for the movie ticket and then rent or download the movie free after. Or watch it on demand for free too.

Oh I don't know that I'd do that, I'd pay more to rent movies if they were streaming into the home(like your example shutter Island), but quality wise I'd still pay for the best. I wouldn't settle for streaming. I might view more movies instead of waiting till they hit blu-ray.
