At the very least, the expansion, as was admitted by an Academy spokesperson, was directly attributable to such critically and commercially successful films as The Dark Knight and Wall-E not being nominated (for the record, they SHOULD NOT have been nominated. They were, imo, the 13th and 14th best films of last year, not including foreign films). So, Up, as a critically and commercially successful film will almost certainly be one of the 10 nominees for best picture, which could take it out of the running for best animated feature, as I do not think there can be "double-dipping" (could be wrong about that but I thought the same was true for best foreign film, when Crouching Tiger was nominated).

i loved coraline, will buy Up! tonight and watch it. its very hyped up but i still think it will stand up to the hype, but Coraline will be tough to knock in my opinion. lots of great themes there, a very unconventioal animation, but i've heard UP! is also.
