Well I guess I did it differently. I fully embraced the Blu format by buying strictly Blu in the hopes that it would catch on and getting ride of all my DVD's...or giving them to my son.

eerrrrrr.. and what's 'stopping' them getting a Blu-ray player ????

what's inhibiting them 'making' the switch ????

since you know these people - have you 'asked' this question ????

which is fine....but not everyone is like that.

when i worked in retail, i had people come in every week for 6 months before they finally bought a tv!!!

some people just can't make up their minds or commit to something.

Probably the fact that Blu-ray player prices are still a little high and you have to have an HDTV. It is still quite expensive to make the switch. But this holiday season the deals are gonna be pretty damn good I expect to see high sales.

This is more of what I see happening in terms of getting someone to fully commit to Blu-ray; Lower the price of flat screens and players. NOT rehashing crappy titles like 8 mile or Street Fighter as a combo.

Dude...wow. Honestly I am not trying to be mean here but seriously this is like the 4th time I said it. They aren't "rehashing" anything. They are just going to be repackaging those Blu-ray's with a DVD version from now on because they think it will help them sell better than they already are. THIS DOESN'T AFFECT FUTURE CATALOG RELEASES FROM UNIVERSAL.

one man's rehashing is another one's repackaging.

I don't know maybe they can't afford a player right at this moment and most are waiting for the holiday season and black Friday to get a player. Just because they can afford a $25 DVD/BD combo doesn't mean they can go out and get a BD player right away.

No need to be disrespectful there tough-guy. I think your missing the point here. If Universal is doing this so that families can watch the same movie in different rooms, on different formats...YEAH, it's a brilliant idea!
If Universal is doing this in the hopes that it will get that family to go Blu? There are better ways of doing it.

I'm all for it, as long as they don't decide to charge a premium for the included DVD copy

The only effect we may see, is that more releases get bundled with DVDs.

Which is only going to help sales even more in the long run.

I told you I meant no disrespect I am just trying to get it through to you. For example right now on Amazon.com you can get Jarhead on DVD for like $8-$10. The Blu-ray version is $14.99. You are telling me you don't see the business logic and throwing in a DVD copy with the $14.99 Blu-ray isn't going to make some people want to buy it? These movies are more than likely not selling very well at all so this is a good move for Universal. THEY AREN'T PRODUCING MILLIONS OF MORE BLU-RAY'S THEY ARE GOING TO BE DOING THIS FROM NOW ON WITH THE EXISTING BLU-RAY'S AND DVD'S THEY HAVEN'T SHIPPED OUT TO RETAILERS YET.

Not to mention the ones that were returned from retailers, after the 'Hot Period' passed for the releases.

These repackagings get the movies back out at stores that have limited shelf space.
