i have heard rumors that originally the monolith floated around during the prelude, hopefully this is in.

I think the rumors are true, but 8 minutes of monolith floating in space is a lot in terms of screen time.

Another possibility (aside from a lebeling error). In the Special Edition DVD of Rembetiko they added at the beginning COMPLETE credits and a plaque-insert giving a little history of Rembetiko music and the Smyrna Disaster that led to the development of this musical form. It was very tastefully done, beginning with a freeze frame from the opening of the film and old rembetiko music playing on a gramophone for soundtrack. After the credits and plaque it went to the start of the film as usual. (The freeze frame started moving.) In the original theatrical release only the basic credits were given at the beginning.
