Thumbs up Star Trek BD Sells 1.1 million copies in 1 week!

Forum member ACD posted the info first in the Home Media Research Thread, but I though it was deserving of a separate thread. Thus, Star Trek becomes the fourth 1 million unit BD seller in its debut week. TDK 1 million, Transformers ROTF 1.1 million, Up 1 million, Star Trek BD 1.1 million. From Home Media Magazine:

Quote:
Star Trek, from Paramount Home Entertainment, easily topped both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart and Home Media Magazine’s rental chart for the week. The film sold an estimated 5.7 million discs its first week out, according to Home Media Magazine market research — a figure that includes all of North America as well as the rental market.

First-week Blu-ray Disc sales are pegged at 1.1 million.
Star Trek goes to warp speed in Blu!

Haha...thank you responding Manny . Awesome news for BD as it is establishing itself very nicely in Q4, and for Star Trek fans. The sequel to the reboot will have the funds necessary to be a great production.

So is this the fastest selling blu to 1 million? Or does the Dark Knight hold that record?

Just can't get myself to buy this. Went to it in theaters and was let down. Poor story and a very predictable film all the way through. Not on my list but others apparently like it.

I don't think there was any doubt this movie was going to be a success on BD. In my opinion Star Trek is the best movie of 2009 by far.

Yep I knew it would be hot seller as well.

The sequel is supposed to have something to do with Khan. Uh oh.......a Wrath of Khan remake?

Hope they do it right.

#1. There wasn't any doubt that this film would be a success on BD.

#2. I still feel that District 9 has a distinct edge over Star Trek as the best film of 2009.

I have yet to see District 9, but everyone seem to like it. A blind buy on that one for me. I won't be surprised to see Blu-ray have over 30% of all units sold for D9. Sony is running a very smart promotion by including the God of War demo with. Should hit a sweet spot with the PS3 gaming crowd.

I agreed District 9 is a great Sci-Fi movie and was a sleeper hit during the summer when mega budget movies was dominating the market.

Star Trek is still my favorite movie of 2009, but District 9 comes very close in terms of storyline, plot, and for a modest budget looked very impressive. One of my Top 5 pics for 2009.

Good numbers for Star Trek. It's great seeing so many movies crossing the one million mark on the first week.

Never really liked Star Trek before, but found the movie to be entertaining and the PQ and AQ to be reference level, this is what blu-ray is all about.
