My name is going to be in the credits* so I'll be buying it for sure - glad to hear that it's an okay movie!

*To explain, I signed a petition to have it distributed to Empire Theatres in my city (and across Canada?) so they offered anyone that did that the "opportunity" to have their name in the credits, so I went for it!

I know the selling price will be lower (hopefully MUCH lower), but $48.99 list?!?!?!? Especially when the film itself was made on a real shoestring budget (something like $11,000-15,000)??? That's really milking the public, Paramount!!!

from reading all the posts I guess horror films are just like comedies--
completely subjective--
what is "scary" and what is "funny" effect people in totally different ways
so with that in mind-- people's opinions don't mean much.... not that I
ever paid too much attention to reviews anyway. I have bought countless
horror films in the past 20 years and while I got a few clunkers, I have
rarely truly regretted buying one-- BLAIR WITCH PROJECT was overrated
with a ton of hype as well but I still thought it was a good (not great)
movie..

I got burned on preorders where the price dropped shortly after it shipped or a B&M selling it for less with exclusives.
I occasionally pre-order items with high initial prices for several reasons:

1) By pre-ordering, I lock in Amazon's lowest price between my order and the items shipping. Occasionally, Amazon will have a brief low pre-order price which is lower than the price on release day.

2) Amazon doesn't charge my card until the item ships.

3) If the item doesn't come down to a reasonable price, or I find a better deal elsewhere, I can cancel my order with Amazon and it costs me nothing.

I didn't pre-order this one, and will probably just rent it from Netflix. Also, I live in a small community which has a Wal-Mart, but the nearest Target or Best Buy is over an hour away, so most retailer exclusives are of little interest to me.

IMO movies like this aint meant to have awesome and clear PQ as it was "a home video". Plus this was shot using a home digital camcorder and not like Cloverfield where bits of it used a proper movie cam.
It, obviously, wont be. Don't expect the Blu-ray version to look any better that the DVD.

Yeah thats what I am thinking. I think it might look a bit better but not enough to justify the extra cost...thats if the cost is much lower for the dvd. I am liking the look of the Collectors Edition DVD version but $48 plus shipping to UK is asking too much for this movie.

I am going to blind buy this because of the mixed opinions here. I will either end up with a super scary horror flick (a good thing) or a hilarious comedy, also a good thing. I cant lose.

I'm really curious as to if they'll follow through with this or not. I signed up through the email I got too, but I'm sure they have alot of Seymore Butts and I.P. Freeleys to filter through.

To me, this movie is only efective if it is watched with a nice Home Theater setup, because it is based more on " hearing " than in " watching ". I found it myself pretty boreing by the way. I expected too much on this one because of all the media madness and info I read and I was dissapointed as hell. The price scared me more than the movie itself !

I'd suggest a rental. I love horror movies, but didn't care for this.

I feel like part of it is just that I didn't buy the "OMG TRUE STORY" that some people thought it was. I'm not saying that I can't enjoy something with that type of marketing ( I enjoyed Blair Witch Project and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, for example), but I felt that that sort of 'belief' in the world was what hinged whether it was scary or not. I didn't care about the characters, thought the plot was limited by budget in too noticable of a way... I just didn't care for this at all.

That said, a lot of people enjoyed it, so I can't completely attack it.

They do indeed. I scrolled through the list and there were a TON of bogus and rude names.

Wrong...it was pretty scary. Not disturbing, horror-scary like Exorcist or anything, but entertaining, creepy scary like the Orphanage.

I loved this movie and this isn't the FINAL price. Most movies start really high and work their way down as the release date comes closer. Just wait, it'll be somewhere in the $20s.
