Default Bourne 4 might not happen (Greengrass quits)

Paul Greengrass, director of The Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum, has left Bourne 4 over script and budgeting issues.

Universal is upset over the re-shoots and expanding budget of his upcoming film Green Zone. It was supposed to be a small pet project for Greengrass, but it has ballooned to over $150 million dollars. Script issues with Bourne 4 has also upset Greengrass.

Matt Damon has said that he's loyal to Paul and would only return to the series if Greengrass went along with him.

Maybe the director of The Bourne Identity, Doug Liman, could return. I'm sure that Damon would come back for a big enough paycheck. I thought that the ending of Ultimatum wrapped the story up well, but I'm game for another one if the story is worth telling. Green Zone, which also stars Damon, might be the closest thing we get to seeing another Bourne film.

Bourne 4 will happen no matter what. The old $ talks applies.

They'd probably go the James Bond route and just have a different Bourne.

I personally think that's a terrible idea. Damon is Bourne...

A 4th shouldn't happen anyway. This was a great trilogy that was tied up nicely. Good news as far as I'm concerned

I think Greengrass is a hack to be honest. The second and third films was too shaky for me to concentrate.

I thought the 2nd was the best one. The 3rd was the worst.

I'd like to see a fourth film but it is as a greedy audience member. I thought the third film was a good finish (in fact I wouldn't have shown the last shot of him swimming, just end on Julia's smile and music cue). I also wouldn't mind a new director (shaky cam = cheap styling to me). But replacing Damon would be weird to me.

If the fourth film is well-written then bring it on otherwise the trilogy will do for me.

I liked them but agree that the shakiness significantly detracts from the film. Ebert concurs.

Agreed!

Greengrass made #2 and #3 unwatchable to me. After watching the trailer for Green Zone it is apparent that is all he can do. It is too bad, because I do like Damon in the role.

There is only one Bourne move in my collection, I wouldn't mind a second.

Studios tend to get upset, and so would I, if you set out to make a 50 mil movie and it increases by 100 million when you look away.

No way green zone make 150+ if it's R like I heard it might be.

It's not a trick he uses, it's his style. I wouldn't call him a one trick pony because of it.

I think Katherine Hepburn did the cinematography on the 2nd and 3rd films.

Good contribution. Way to go...

Anyways, my opinion this is that it's not a big deal if they don't make a fourth. I agree with some others that said it was a great trilogy that was wrapped up nicely. I wouldn't mind a fourth of course if it was done well, but there's no real need for another. I wouldn't want to see anyone else as Bourne either.
