Default Keep boycotting Dreamworks and Paramount

Don't be fooled by the name change. If they don't support Blu-ray, then don't support them.

The last paragraph of that article is the most telling IMO.

By trying to get people to abstain completely I think you will get less people to agree. If your goal is to help Blu-ray then I think for a lot of people the best advice is to tell them that if they really feel they need to see a Universal, Paramount, or Dreamworks movie and aren't willing to watch them on DVD, then go ahead and make sure to see them in the theaters so they won't feel as much need to get the HD DVD when it comes out. Yes, it puts money in the coffers of those companies, but for the theatrical side and if anything, generally the bigger the box office take the more is generally expected of sales for movies when they come out on disc. I'm not saying that those who want to help Blu-ray should try to drive up the box office takes of movies from exclusive HD DVD studios, but that a middle ground that doesn't help HD DVD but still allows people to see these movies that they want to see might work better. Telling movie lovers that they can't see these movies for a long time isn't going to work with a lot of them, so I think finding an alternative that allows them to see them in their glory, but doesn't help the other side in this particular war makes more sense. The extremists can still choose to completely abstain.

In my personal opinion the Movie Theatre Experience is FAR ..FAR from "seeing the movies in their glory".

I hate the theatres!

I decided not to go into details of film vs digital and digital cinema vs home systems, but have you been to a digital cinema?

I have a AMC 30 around the corner. They have Digital DLP Projectors I believe and the picture was great. What I hate the most about the theatres is the people. Crying kids, annoying teenagers with their stupid laster pointers, sticky floors, dirty seats, people talking during the movie, the 80 year old with enlarged prostate that needs to run to the restroom (and thus cross in front of you) every 30 minutes ... etc. etc.

So I really prefer sitting in front of my 50'inch plasma with my 7.1 Onkyo surround sound setup. And even though the theatre has digital projection, I still think BD looks better.

I would have to agree with GreenMotion on this one. I used to go to the Theatres a minimum of twice a week. But it never fails that no matter when I go or what section I sit in to try to sit where I think no one else will, ... I end up around loud people, dumb comments, loud children (including teens) that shouldn't be in most of the movies I watch, and people getting up constantly. This ruins the theatre experience and there is nothing that the theatres can do about it. Now I only go when there is something that I don't think I can wait to see when released on BR. As far as abstaining, I have done well so far... I refuse to pay money to a company that chose a side based on monetary compensation, etc... when it is clear that neither side HDDVD or Bluray will win this war in the end. I think both sides will remain in the end.

But DreamWorks co-founders Steven Spielberg and David Geffen had dropped hints in recent weeks that they might take their filmmaking talent elsewhere.

Lets face it without these two, dreamworks ceases to be a real threat to anybody.

Anyone who thinks the movie theater is the best way to see a movie is living in 1990 with a 20-inch TV.

Keep the overpriced popcorn, drinks and people kicking my chair. I'll take an intimate viewing at home with great picture, sound, atmosphere, food and oh yeah, I own the movie.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've been to a theater in that past two years.

Time to move forward.

Couldn't agree more. I always go to the theatre with my wife because of my fond childhood memories of the theatre experience. Now, it just sucks. People are so damn rude. Kids are totally loud and out of control and turn off your damn cell phones!

Yup, I couldn't agree more the theater experience sucks big time now. The worst thing for me is when people are talking loudly through the movies (young stupid teenagers), talking on the cell phone, & constantly texting through a movie god I hate those things!!! In regards to Paramounted & dreamworks I will not support them till they go back to Blu-Ray. Then and only then will I give them some of my money.

Tell me about it, the theater used to be fun to go to, now whenever I go, no matter where I sit, some fool has to come and sit right in front of me. Even when the theater is mostly empty, they just have to sit in front of me. Then some idiot comes and sits behind me and kicks my seat the whole movie. Then everyone around me chews with their mouth open and talk as loudly as possible.

The worst is when they bring babies into the theater....I mean let's get real.....what're they thinking??.And you're right, the rudeness is incredible.
And the theater I used to go to sells nachos for crissakes and you always get someone crunching in the seat right behind you.

If you want to see one of their movies in the theater, buy a ticket to a movie from a Blu-ray studio instead, and then just go in the other door.

I make a point of not seeing paramount/dreamworks/universal films I don't even rent them. They are boycotting me so I return the favor. funny they were running a few startrek films on a hidef channel on my dish and I couldn't bring myself to watch them. Paramount are such dinks.

So true. When they decide to make some BD's, they'll be welcome back (hesitantly).
