If they plan to run the unit they are insane. The gold will be melting in about 15 mins of heavy use. Do they know how much heat these suckers can produce? 24k gold and heat don't mix well. Stupid waste of money if you ask me.

Gold melts at 1064.18 °C/1947.52 °F, so I don't think it would be melting. However, it is relatively malleable, so it would get more dings than a surfboard.

It's just a shell, plus it should help with heat transfer, so it might actually run cooler.

Wonder if you were real rich and baller, if you could commission Sony to make a custom old school PS3. I would get that satin silver one from E3 2005 with all the extra USB ports and dual HDMI output, 3x gigabit ethernet, etc. with BC, SACD, and card readers damn it!

Anyone read my post? Even if it were gold, its a waste of money because literally its just a machine. After the gold PS3 breaks down, sell the gold parts?

Or use the gold scraps on the next-generation PS4?

Oh I know, use some of the gold for your teeth. Maybe someday when you lose your teeth, you can pawn your teeth when you need emergency cash!!!

It's just for rich, fat *******s to show off their wealth. That much money I could get a bloody mid range projector, like a JVC or Sony, or even better, a home theater with a Panasonic projector with a good, big screen, a good Denon receiver, Intimus speakers, sub woofer and enough money for food. I really hate the "be a rich *******" mentality.

Looks like someone here has buyers remorse for spending $5000 usd on his/her launch day playstation 3, when you could have waited and gotten it in gold.

Don't worry, I won't name names. You know who you are.
