I'm guessing they'll be able to squeeze the first two EEs on single 50gb BDs, and in a worst case scenario have to put RotK on two discs. But you never know, they can do a lot with technology. It would be great if they'd utilize those bigger BDs, but the BDA said they'd never go past 50gb due to compatibility issues with older players.

And I hope we get the same 24-bit DTS-HD MA 7.1 here in Europe.
Usually we get less...........

Ciao.

Has WB been changing their tune lately? They appeared to be strictly using Dolby TrueHD on all BDs for the longest time. Now they're sometimes using DTS?

any other WB discs using DTS? DTS is my preference personally as it avoids the issue of dialog-normalization digital-attentuation so you can actually get true bit-for-bit accuracy to the DAC.

It would have been nice, but I understand why Tom B. was left out. He didn't have a direct connection to the plot. It's the other parts that DID have an important connection to the story, that were left out or altered, that bother me more.

I have a difficult time imagining how they would portray Tom and Goldberry; even Alan Lee's drawing of him in the Lord of the Rings Sketchbook doesn't seem satisfactory. Maybe Tom is one of those characters better left to the imagination.

u should really see how the movies captured the core story while kept being viewable and enjoyable, the book is not really written in a movie friendly way, so dropping some caracter and merging some is a trade off that was made and went ok.

i really try not to mix the movies with the book, the movies are more exciting as they really bring middle earth to life while the book is more about the bits and pieces (and some how slower in pace).

if u have 9 hours the movies will be excellent, if u have 5 days the books will rock! either way impressive story.

and obviously it will be on a 50gb disc, but my point was ROTK EE is twice as long as an average film, and on the earlier release blurays (on 25gb) there were some issues with the compression, so whilst yes its now got twice the capacity of earlier discs, it is also twice as long.
Its only 50 min longer then King Kong and the blu ray has PQ and AQ in reference material. And to top it all of there is a PiP track on it as well. If they can fit that movie on 1 disc + a PiP track in reference quality. ROTK EE can also be on 1 disc

I have my fingers crossed! ROTK EE on one BD? That would be great!

If they are going to have an ultimate edition, I would like to see the extras from the TE's, EE's and TE/EE limited combo editions. I'd be in hog heaven (whatever the hell that is)!

I'm really hoping for the most encompassing release that includes everything. Unfortunately, the studios will want to sell more versions down the line so they will hold out on us for sure. But I would love to see an ultimate edition.

I for one hope they DONT do this for the EEs.

PLEASE WB divide each film (EEs) on to 2 BD50s. I will gladly get off my ass half way through the film and change discs for a higher average rate and 7.1 lossless. These films deserve the absolute VERY best as far as quality is concerned and splitting each EE onto 2 BD50s will ensure this

I'm sure this has already come up, but has anyone noticed that Walmart.com now has a release date of 3/30/2010 on the pre-order for LOTR on blu? Is this something that has been there for a long time and I've never noticed it? If it is... don't hate me 'cause I'm noobiful.

TF1 will be broadcasting the trilogy on TF1HD on December 28/29/30th. Hope I can record them or at least watch them.
