I noticed that transformers is comming out next week and the commercial said its only being released on DVD and HD-DVD, does anyone know why theyre not releasing transformers on bluray? Also, does anyone know when they will?

Its a DreamWorks movie. DreamWorks is owned by Paramount. Paramount does not release movies on Blu-ray nemore. Paramount and Universal are the only two studios that dont release on Blu-ray.

First of all, welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately, Paramount/Dreamworks was paid off by the HD DVD group for a 150 million about a 6 weeks ago to drop BD support. And since they own the rights to Transformers, it will not be available on BD this holiday. Rumor is the contract is 18 months of exclusive HD DVD support, so maybe we will see it by 2009 if rumor holds true and they decided to support BD again.

Also, there is a newbie forum, and numerous threads has been put up discussing this. Check it out, it probably holds a good amount of answers you are looking for. If not, try the search function. Thanx.

I think I am about tired of hearing bout transformers. It is what is. Nothing can be done, In time things come around. For Now there is no blu-ray released here or abroad as Paramount owns world wide rights. I really think this subject has gotten beaten to death.

exactly if people are really concerned about Transformers participate in the buy-a-thon for OCT 16, people don't seen as interested in it as the Sept event, but stop talking about transformers and do something about it, BD is winning, and if BD wins the Format war as I am expecting it's only a matter of time for it to come out on BD.

For me, I'll just buy the SD version. That version is reviewed to have good pq (for a dvd), and should look pretty good upscaled (although not as good as a blu/hd disk). Neither the dvd or hd dvd will have lossless, although hd dvd audio will be better (1.5mbps).

I'm not going to buy a hd dvd player for $300 - $350 just for one movie. (Yeah, I know there's cheaper players, but I'd want one with full 1080p, etc etc).

You know what I've noticed? If I supported HD DVD I could afford all their Q4 releases. But with Blu-Ray I'm going to have to just pick my favorites. Oh well.

It sure is.

Reminds me of the "Hi, I want to decide between Toshiba XA2 and PS3, does PS3 upscale DVDs?" threads that used to pop up daily on AVS (until Sony shut them up by providing a firmware upgrade to do just that, of course)....

enjoy

I'll boycott the DVD version and won't buy any other Paramount DVD until the situation progresses
I think Paramount knows very well HD DVD will fail in the near future, took the money, and will be allowed to release Blu-rays when HD DVD is dead

I will wait for it on BD which could be as soon as December with an import from Japan.
I also find a post like this from a complete newbie to be highly suspect.

to answer your question i have just a few words to say its because Paramount acted stupid and now it seems the only thing people can talk about on this website is the fact that Paramount is Hd-Dvd exclusive because of them being a bunch of retards and its getting kind of annoying hearing about it all of the time and so now that everyone who loves blu-ray that also loves transformers is basically screwed because of paramount's stupidity but what has been done has been done too late now

Can we file Paramount/Dreamworks's HD DVD exclusivity and Transformers into the: Let's Move On bin?

^^ I second that... I'm pissed enough as it is (just got the Score and am looking forward to it... even if it's only in SD)

Okay!! So yes, a Blu-Ray owner wants Transformers and the solution is to buy numerous OTHER titles to spike sales as a means to convince them (the owner that wanted Transformers) that the title is not that good- just look at the high BD sales for the week!

Yeah, seems kinda screwed huh? I think it's an attempt to trounce the HD-DUD format from getting their first week in a long time of higher sales than Blu-ray. Kinda silly. I just preordered my SDDVD version from Amazon.

It makes perfect sense. I won't be able to get the movie I want, so I am going to go buy a whole bunch of movies that I only kind of want.

I am pretty sure that is how gov't works.
