A "preview" of the extended cuts. Oh Lord that is funny. Meaning, they are perfectly capable of releasing them, but New Line and Peter Jackson would rather face of the fans and wipe our money.

shocking!! £54.99 is only €62.00!! Play are awful when it comes to prices/rates against the Euro

I will buy it from the States.. will still be cheaper, even after shipping!

Yeah, I'm sorry. Really, I just find that this is a worst case scenerio. New Line and Peter Jackson double dipped last gen with the dvd release. What's upsetting is that the films are being packaged as a "premium" trilogy, with extras rehashed from the dvd release. Part of it is degrading to the blu ray format, which fully allows both cuts to be provided on the same disc. In fact, another reason it upset me is because one of the special features I figured was a given, were an interactive way of watching the films where the discs would let you branch off and peter jackson could give his reasoning for cutting material/why he decided to put in the EE/what he feels it added/etc. In my mind it's not only a slap in the face to fans, but the blu ray format in general--something that is marketed, whether it's the case or not, as a format that provides new and inviting ways of exploring the cinematic world. With it being such a popular release, it's just making the double dip more acceptable.

Personally, I don't mind waiting for something as long as it's done right. Regardless of what I said above, the number one reason I decided to invest in blu ray, was to own very very high quality versions of things sometimes considered to be pieces of art. It's not even a monetary matter, I don't want to waste my time going out to buy another package when it should have been done right the first time.

I'll wait for the extended editions too. The Theatricals seem so disjointed after seeing the ee's.

I'll have to check what they look like upscaled, but the films are so awesome to start with that the format is not important to enjoy them.

I wouldn't mind getting the theatricals but I've only seen the EE's so I don't know if I fancy going from EE's to theatrical not knowing how much is cut out..

The action is pretty much intact but you lose a lot of the background info and little scenes which fill out the story much more. The EE's seem like the proper deal to me, but each to their own.

Anyone know if there will be any more additional scenes added in for the EE blu release compared to the dvd's or are they exactly the same cuts?

I don't understand how you can be angry at New Line and Peter Jackson for this. You know the EE box set is coming to blu at some point in the not too distant future. If you choose now to own the theatrical blus rather than wait for the EE release, well, that ain't Peter Jackson's fault.
