Default How to fix a blu-ray drive?

My laptop internal Blu-ray drive (Panasonic/Matsh1ta UJ-220) seems to have random difficulty reading Blu-ray disc. It can't read the disc and that includes both Blu-ray movies and data. The problem happens randomly but seems to be getting worse lately. I have tried to clean the lenses, remove and reinstall the drive, upgrading to the latest firmware (1.04), try both XP and Vista, reinstall from the Recovery DVD but the problem doesn't go away.

DVD and CD, however, work perfectly.

Is there anything else I could do to fix the drive?

If the laptop is still under warranty.....I woul dsuggest having the blu ray drive returned and have them send you a replacement. Often companies will ship out the unit in question and have you return it to damaged unit in the box that the replacement came in...

Good Luck.

Hi all,
Why don't you send it in and save yourself the hassle of possibly screwing it up more? Odds are the laser is dead, and you won't find a cheap bluray diode just laying around somewhere.

What kind of a Laptop do you have? Usually the Drives can be replaced. Give me the Make and Model number and I'll let you know if it can be replaced. It does look like you can replace that Drive, you can find them OnLine and on eBay.
