Okay, I'm having a problem updating for COD4. I pop in the disc and it says I have to download the 1.30 update so I press okay. It begins to download and gets to 26% and stops. The it says an error has occurred, 80710723. So I back out and restart the PS3. Now, this time it gets to 52% and stops, and the same error occurs. Okay, I restart again, I check my network settings, everything is fine. I begin the download again. This time I get to 73%, and guess what? It stops and I get the same error. Now, I'm pissed. I change the PS3 from wireless to wired to see if that works, nope. I then go back to wireless, it begins to download and I get to 26% again, and it stops! What the hell! I can't find this 80710723 error anywhere! Help?

Is that an update for COD or for the PS3?

I have encountered this same problem a number of times when a new game tries to download an update. You don't have to restart the PS3. Just close the game, reopen it and try the update again. As near as I can tell that error code indicates the download has timed out. It's as if this is a problem with the server you're downloading it from rather than anything to do with the PS3, your connection or the game itself.

I feel for you, hardcore... what a frustrating experience, when all you wanted to do was to play, huh?

The reason I asked is because some games do provide firmwares for the PS3s but since they are on disc, the firmware is always outdated after one month.

As for the hanging of the patch for COD4, that happens with popular games sometimes. If they release another patch tomorrow and EVERYONE who wants to play online download it at once, some people may get disconnected as the strain to the servers to feed everyone intensify.

I saw a thread a while back that listed all the 7.1 surround sound PS3 games available. Now I'm having trouble finding it. Can someone direct me to it? Thank you.

Does anyone have any 'official' reviews of the Slim now that it's been out for a bit?

I resently bought a 250 gig PS3 slim three weeks ago, & honestly, I'm 100% satisfied & couldn't be happier with my purchace. This is my 2nd blu Ray player, & my new ps3 is heads & tales above my last bd player. I currently have no complaints, & would recommend the ps3 slim to anyone who is in the market for a new player.

I purchased my Sony PS3 60GB in August 2007. I bought this mainly for all of the features, but gaming wasn't the focus and only cursory in desires (experimental, if you will).

The features for BD playback, the media card slows were convenient, the ability for backwards compatibility not applicable to me, and the ability to explore Linux on the PS3 was not conducted before the unit failed.

Last week the HDMI output ceased to work. I followed the troubleshooting advice from folks on this and many other boards, and also that of Sony Support. I updated the firmware to 3.15, reset the Default Settings, and even tried the following as suggested by Sony:

Turn off main power. Press & hold front power button, turn main power back on, release front power button after second 'beep' is heard. The Composite video informed me it detected an HDMI device and promoted me if I wished to use it. I chose Yes. Still nothing. I tested this against multiple HDMI cabled, several HDTVs, etc.

Considering I spent $500 on this PS3 and mainly used it for BD playback, the end result is not in keeping with the investment. I am even less inclined to give Sony even more of my money in hopes of a 3rd year of use of this PS3.

Considering my overall experience does not lend itself to being confident in Sony PS3 products (I'm an Xbox gamer, not a PS3 gamer), I am probably not going to get this unit repaired nor buy another PS3. I cannot even justify buying another Sony product at this point.

Keep in mind I also own a Sony PS3 Slim. I do not expect this unit to last. Why should I? At this point I am better off buying disposable units in the sub-$100 arena and throw money away in the previous manner.

I paid $600 for a launch day 60GB and also bought extended warranty which came in handy recently.

A month or so ago just after the 3.0 FW my PS3 died. I was able to get a refurbed unit via my extended warranty.

I'm still thrilled to have the PS3,... it's simply the most elegant and powerful source component I've ever had the pleasure to own. I use it for Blu Ray, DVD, CD, SACD, PS3 Games, PS2 Games, and even PS1 games as well as media files of all types. It can see my DVR as a media server and play HDTV over the wifi network connection.

In my case the PS3 does do EVERYTHING just like it says in the ads. I even converted all my Laserdiscs to Mpegs and have them on the PS3 hard drive. The PS3 is the only source component I have and I'm not missing a thing.

When I bought the Xbox 360 they offered a a two-year replacement warranty from Best [Bad] Buy, and I got it. This was because the 360 for $399 and the two-year replacement policy covered up to that amount.

When I got the 60GB PS3, the cost was $499 and exceeded the two-year replacement warranty. At the time, they insured me it would be covered. I was never solicited for replacement warranty for a greater period of time.

So, I was left to think that instead of a one year Sony warranty, I had a two year warranty. My unit dies after two years four months. Am I mis-interpreting the Best [Bad] Buy Replacement Warranty?

I guess I need to ask if the two-year replacement warranty starts from day one, or from the last day the original manufacturer warranty ends.
