Default Denon's Talmadge re: Profile 1.1

Story here.

Begging everyone's pardon if I've missed previous discussion about this; I did a perfunctory search, but scrolling very long tires my eyes. I've seen this story linked here and elsewhere but I haven't gotten a very clear understanding of the implications of this particular statement from Denon's Director of Product Development and Systems Integration:

Quote:
JT: ...But there is a possibility — and this is maybe not so public knowledge — that when these discs come out that fit this new profile [Profile 1.1], they may not work properly with the Profile 1.0 players.
LU: Really?
JT: It’s a possibility, and that’s why we’re working very hard to make sure that our products will be okay with any previous discs and new discs.
It's the only evidence I've seen cited to support the HD-DVD camp's argument that "everyone will have to buy new BD players next year ," so...

Substantive, informed comment appreciated.
