with that said, for a small room you won't need a lot of power. i can't speak for the efficiency of the speakers that came with your HTiB but perhaps you could do with more efficient speakers, for example Klipsch make incredibly high efficiency rated speakers some as high as 97db but most are 90db+. you didn't mention what you are connecting to the receiver (by brand & model) this will help in knowing how your getting sound and video to the receiver, i.e. do you want or need to do analog multichannel in? you mentioned you want a receiver that does (decodes) HD codecs, that's what you should be looking for. how many HDMI's do you want? things like that. you mentioned the word loud, what do you mean loud. for a small room you really don't need that much power to make it "loud" did you mean ear busting loud? is it possible that the "speaker levels" are turned down low on the existing receiver, have you checked that. if the levels are down on the individual channels, the signal you get to each speaker will be lower and even turning up the volume knob will not necessarily give the desired results. your current receiver will not decode HD codecs it will pass audio straight through and it has analog multichannel inputs so if you have a blu-ray player that decodes HD codecs onboard you can send it out either LPCM via HDMI or via analog multichannel and you will get analog sound. part of the beauty of this hobby we all love is the research for knowledge about things, individual research. I think if you put some time in and do your homework on this and other sites you will come to a very good couple of choices of what will work for you then come back and let us know the whats & why's of the particular gear you are thinking about and it will be better for you and us. this way we aren't out doing the work for you but giving our opinion on what you have done your research on. i know that was not what you wanted to hear, but in the long run, you will be better equipted and more knowledgable about things and you won't go through what you ended up going through at BB or any place else physical or online. it's gotta start with you. so, please don't take my post the wrong way as negative because it's not intended to be negative. best of luck, let us know what you have narrowed it down to and we will give our opinions on it; i know i will. |
