The ONLY positive I can see coming of this is that the price of HDTV's without 3D may drop, which would benefit me. Other than that I find it useless.

I certainly hope we don't start getting "3D only" releases in the future.

Film to me as I knew it is slowly starting to fade away...

Does anyone else share my thoughts about 3D?
I'm with ya here. I don't want a 3DTV. Maybe many years from now when they're cheaper and have no bugs, but I'm not buying one any time soon, and I'm not buying any 3D blus.

I could care less about 3D, I'm not going to go out and buy a new TV and BD player just to see 3D. I would more likely check it out if I could buy an adapter or get a firmware upgrade for my existing equipment. I won't be upgrading my Kuros until 2160P TVs are available at a reasonable price.

I'm not against it but I'm not buying any 3D equipment until a few years down the road. That is, if and when blu-ray does go predominantly 3D. I'm just going to wait and see how it goes. In the mean time 3D is best seen on the big screen in movie theaters as far as I'm concerned.

3D isn't even close to perfect yet, but in 4 years or so after the bugs have been worked out, it will completely take over. Eventually the same way color TV took over black and white.

I hope they figure it out by then. If this technical backwater version of 3D get standardized, it may take longer...so many people will buy into this mess it will hard to be able to drag them out of it.

I think that the more appropriate question is for me to ask...

Am I the only one WHO WANTS a 3D TV???

So far, 9 out of 10 people that I talk to about this new technology coming out wants nothing to do with it. I'm stoked for it to finally be implemented properly within the home theatre environment... especially for gaming.

Hey, everybody wants one. It's just that very few people think this is what they want.

I want a Ferrari, and I can't glue a My Little Pony decal to the hood of a Yugo and fool anybody, no matter how hard I rev the engine and yell at good looking women, "hey baby, come for a ride in my Hot Sports Car!"

Talking them into wearing huge, weird glasses before they look wouldn't help, either.

I'd really like 3D. Wake me up when somebody gets it right.

ya, i definitely don't want one. its not that i cant afford one, or im waiting for it to get perfected. i just dont want it, period.

i feel like film and cinema are moving in the wrong direction with this. whenever i hear 3D i always think of how they used to make film with movies like citizen kane, the godfather, casablanca, on the waterfront etc etc it was all about the story, the character, the emotional ride they took you on. not anymore.

many of you will argue that 3D is simply the next step just like colour was the next step from B&W but i dont believe that is the case. the introduction of colour never took away from the movie experience and certainly wasnt distracting to the viewer

just my 2 cents...great discussion though

I am not interested either, once in a great while at the theatre cool. In my home not so much... they should be concentrating on regular HDTV penetration and getting blu-ray a stronger base. This just seems like one more thing with confusing specs to make consumers wait even longer to take the plunge... If ever, many people think HDTV itself is a gimmick, this will only solidify that and many other misconceptions.

I don't think it will fly, either. There was a reason why it never worked back in the "olden" days when the studios tried implementing it. It was a gimmick. And it didn't work. It's still a gimmick, as far as I'm concerned, and just another way for electronic companies to get consumers all lathered up about the "new" extra and have them lemming-like, dump what they got and give the companies even more of their hard-earned pennies for a gimmick that just does nothing to add to the movie experience. I like the suspension of reality when I'm watching a movie, I don't want to be part of it.

Thumbs up

I went to see Avatar 3D yesterday and it was amazing although I find 3D should belong only in theatres. I see it as a night out experience...not for everyday use.

I can't say I have sen avatar, however I am intrigued to see it though, probably never wil either. However, Ihave copletly no interitst in getting invloved with 3D or RealD or whatever it's called. I too think the tech. is being rushed. To me it's not real cinema because yes we see things in a 3D light in the real world, however movies are filmed in a 2D light. is 3D the next format form that yes, should it be merged into a standard for films, IDK. but all I know is I'm not gogint with 3D any time in the near future at all just my 2 cents.

I share your thoughts.

I consider myself a Cinephile; I appreciate the artful aspects of film - the suspense, the dialogue, the acting, cinematography and directing.

The films of today just can't fit the bill to compare to movies of yesteryear. Now, the CGI graphics are the stars of the show. You don't get that many movies anymore with intense plots - just movies with a lot of explosions and "shaky" and "jerky" camera movements to make the movie seem more intense (trying to make up for a thin plot and weak acting).

3-D is a technological marvel - if it is executed right. I don't want the movies to get more and more technical and less and less inspiring, but I am afraid that you may be right.
