Default Readyboost question

I know it's not bluray or drive related, but I figured this would be my best place to get an answer.

I have an 8gb flash drive that I'm using for Readyboost with my Windows 7. I originally had it equipped with Vista which could only utilize 4gb with readyboost, and now that I've upgraded Windows, I can't figure out how to get it to use all 8gb. I tried formatting it and re-dedicating it, but it still uses only 4gb. Any suggestions?

What file system are you using? If its fat32 formatted, you're going to have a 4GB limit.

Reformatted it with exFAT, and it uses all 8GB now. Thanks.

Why bother trying to squeeze a little bit more performance out of my computer...?

At the risk of thread-crapping, it always seemed to me that the extra service(s) Windows runs to enable Readyboost pretty much nullifies any benefit, particularly if you're using any sort of modern computer.

It's just that RAM is wicked cheap, and once you are over 2GB of RAM Readyboost doesnt really do anything

I see your point, but I'm using a laptop with 4gb that just can't use any more ram as far as I know. I must say though, games do seem to be running a little bit smoother now, not a whole lot, but I wasn't expecting a huge jump.

if you have 4GB of ram then readyboost isnt doing jack.

Memory reads at 3200MB/s or better depending on the speed

USB flash drive reads at 25MB/s for a good one.

In a system with 3GB or greater it isnt worth it, besides 4GB of RAM is plenty currently with very few exceptions

windows 7 loads kinda fast. i doubt you will see significant gains with readyboost whether 4 or 8 gb.

id say it aint worth the trouble.

just my 2cents though...
