Nope! Impractical, unrealistic and antiquated tech that needs to be done away with. It was only cool with the N64 as a gimmick. Also annoys me that it was such a big deal with some gamers back when Sony originally decided not to support it.

I suppose the one genre it would be most apt for is racing since you typically have your hands on a steering wheel. |

Collecting crap to complete the game, purchase upgrades or advance from a spot.
The "Im shot, no the screen is red and I can't tell what the he'll is going on" crap. Drab graphics. Combination of 2 and 3. (yeah killzone 2. That's you. It's bad enough when your game has six colors, but when your shot you can't see crap, and while amazing, the particle effects don't help. Half asses single-player modes Annoying trophies Obsession with trophies. One time only find-ables in RPGs |

Playing the Hero.
How about playing a Resident Evil type game as a Zombie the entire way through. Different combos mean eating different parts of the body LOL Or a Metal Gear Solid game where you are the villain. Or instead of Batman, The Joker. etc etc |

Releasing buggy games and then relying on a downloadable patch to fix them later. Fix all known bugs and *then* release them.

While I do hate buggy games, I don't think it's just a trend... Remember SOCOM on the PS2? Lots of glitchers. I think that we're just noticing it more, because the devs are actually able to release patches now. Last gen, a broken online mode was just left that way.

You can turn it off. It might even give you some more battery life.

This, and also DLC that is released 2 days after the game comes out. I would welcome a message from the developer saying "we plan to support this game with DLC but have no particulars at the moment" or something along those lines. But if you already are working on marketing DLC before the game is even released, then there is an issue.
I'm not saying that they shouldn't be working on it before release, and they probably should if they want it to be worthwhile, but at least let us believe that you aren't excluding stuff that should be in the original packaging. |

Yep about what I was gonna say. Games that ship day one with DLC. I have no problem with 5-15 bucks a few months down the road to get something extra. But when it is available for purchase day one that is BS. I payed 60 bucks for the game give me the complete game from the get go.

I decided to bring the thread back to complain about the gaming trend that seems to have been started anew by Activision. The whole "Premium Online" thing they are doing should die a quick death. It will only lead to worse things down the road. Soon we will by "access" to a game where we then get a stock character that we have to pay to add anything to. They are going to try to make games all MMO like and make competition unyieldingly unfair unless you want to pay extra to get the content sooner or make you things better. Here is a good article to explain what I mean http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2...ay-to-play.ars

How did I not notice this thread before?
Anyway, if there's one trend that really needs to die, its online matchmaking. I hate the fact that so many games companies are switching over from server browsers to matchmaking, a format that is many times more inferior. Thank god Starhawk and Twisted Metal are going to offer both when they release. |
