because its a branded subwoofer.
id definitely consider Hsu's STF-2, based on previous experiences with them and their products. as always, take frequency responses with a grain of salt. they can stipulate all they want, but it can be decieving at times. 20hz or lower, you would feel the bass, not necessarily hear it. and considering that if they 'claim' it can handle these lower frequencies, it might be for a trunciated amount of time, and not a constant signal so to speak. |

I've got a SVS PB12-NSD, but it's out of your price range. After careful room placement, it's essentially flat from 17 to 80hz, where it's crossed over. While running sweeps and tones, I found sub 28hz frequencies are easily audible. There's plenty of sub 30hz energy in modern DVD's and blu-rays. Anything under 20hz was not audible to me, although it was showing on my SPL meter. Notice Hsu gives frequency specs within a db spread. This is very important in analyzing performance. +/- 3db in the given frequency range is considered essentially flat. Actual room performance usually nowhere near as flat. |
