Angry Very disappointing audio track on Transformers

Last night I went to a friend's house and he slipped a copy of transformers into his HD-DVD player and I could not enjoy the movie as the audio track was just not good, maybe is just me, but I could not enjoy the movie Paramount screwed up big time! I hate to see such an awesome movie with such low quality audio.

Well when there isn't enough space not a lot paramount can do.

There's nothing "low quality" about DD+. It sounded great on my home theater last night. Perhaps your friend had his receiver settings screwed up.

Horhay, welcome to the membership!

How do you think I feel? I had to watch it on DVD with Dolby. Not even upscaled. I only have stereo TV speakers right now. After watching so many Blu-ray with PCM sound I could clearly notice the sound having a slight muffle to it.

You are certainly informed enough to know that HD DVD simply does not have the space. Thus my redition of their slogan:

"HD DVD. The look and sound of, look for the sound!"

I still got lost into the movie and felt awe struck as I did in the theater. I can't help but think how much more the impact would have been on BD.

We're all in this game for the movies right? Seriously for those of you who are not format neutral, you need to find someone who has a properly set up HD DVD system and enjoy this film.

I watched it last night, and I can thoroughly say that it is by FAR the single best HD DVD I own in terms of AQ and PQ.

I smacked him to bring him into sense. Don't get me wrong I loved the movie, its just that for a while I have been watching movies that have uncompressed audio and I have noticed the difference. Oh well I guess one day we'll see the blu treatment and it will get the treatment it deserves.

I have been following the format war for quite some time, I almost made a mistake of buying an Xbox 360 add-on until my brother bought a PS3 and we started buying blu-rays, if it wasn't that I went out of the country the past two weeks I would have continued buying movies , but I am back and I ordered 3 from Amazon and took avantage of the 2 for 1 at CC and got 4 blu-rays on Monday (I hope it doesn't hurt my pockets at the end of the month).

Just to clarify, you can tell the difference between DD and PCM on TV speakers?

Well, this is a Sony TV, and the speakers are great. I do believe I can tell the difference. Yes, on just the HDTV speakers.

Though I greatly enjoyed the Transformers movie on DVD, I was still painfully aware of it, even if ever so slightly.

I don't know of any TV that has great speakers - and I also have a Sony TV. The TV sounds okay, but it is far from great. TV speakers are usually 2 or 3" cheap paper cones that can be replaced for about $10.

I certainly agree that PCM sounds better than DD or DD+, but the difference is not night and day. PCM usually has more clarity or depth, but to claim to hear those differences on little paper TV speakers would be a stretch. And this is not even considering the fact that the audio decoding is done by your TV as opposed to a receiver or processor.

To enjoy the benefits of PCM or any HD audio, you need at least a decent receiver and speakers.

Well, this is a Sony WEGA Tube TV and I can really crank up the sound without distortion. At least, that is what I hear, and my hearing is still good.

I had a Wega until a few months ago (wasnt' HD), and currently have a Sony LCD. The Wega speakers were fair, and the new Sony has good speakers (even has a sub) - however, they are still TV speakers. Small, cheap paper speakers.

There is of course nothing wrong with listening to BD on TV speakers, and I sure they sound fine on your TV, but it will be impossible - no matter how good your hearing is - to tell the difference between DD and PCM. Impossible.

My only real issue is you claim to be an educator as a blu blood, and you are giving out false infomation.

Whoa, whoa, back up. I THINK I heard a difference. Based on my recall. Not that I actually studied the event. Not trying to mislead here. Besides, this is not directly related to any BD movie.
