King Of The Re-Makes, Tim Burton Is At It Again.....Well, Sort Of.....

I'd like to know what happened to the insanely creative genius who brought us Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. While this really isn't a 100% full blown re-make, it's still re-hashing old material. Idk.....I just don't get this guy.....

I was chatting to a fella I know tonight, and this person heard that Tim Burton is developing another classic Disney fairy tale in a quasi Live Actiony kinda way. It seems that Tim has a hankering for SLEEPING BEAUTY... but not really... You see, he's going to tell the story from Maleficent's point of view. In fact, it'll be called MALEFICENT.

She was always the most interesting character in that story, but we never knew why she hated those three little fairy wenches... or what indignity she suffered at the hands of Aurora's parents. Yeah, I'm on board... if only it ends with Maleficent with a sword in her heart in dragon form. Cuz that'll rule. Think about how long this plotline was carried out over. She has quite a tale to tell. Let's see where it pops up in Burton's filmography. We're hearing that DARK SHADOWS is stumbling a bit... Let's see what Tim does next, he has some interesting choices before him."

The last good film I enjoyed from him was Sleepy Hollow.

I am looking forward to his Dark Shadows even if I am not sure how he can translate a 1300+ episodes long series into a single movie.

I am looking forward to his Alice but I am going in with "we shall see and not expecting much". The Slepping Beauty project could be a lot of fun, I sort of agree it will be good to see things from her side of the story.

While I would love to see Tim Burton tackle some original ideas again....

I have to say most of his best work has been in reimaginings. And this sounds cool.

Just hope it delivers, unlike his takes on Planet of the Apes and Willy Wonka.

What happened? He started believing his own fans who said he could turn anything into genius, and the studios that handed him anything to touch.

Think "Maleficent" was already a book for Disney's own publishing company, but Disney's got their dog on a leash hoping to spend Alice's money, and, as noted, Tim's since lost the functional ability to say the word "no"--
If they say he can do it even if they don't know how, he's the first one to believe it completely.

Sounds interesting but I can't wait until Alice and Dark Shadows starts filming this fall so that will be really good. Never did see the original Dark Shadows series.

From what I've seen so far - that Alice in Wonderland film is gonna be awesome. Something tells me if Alice becomes a box-office hit Disney will want a lot more of Tim Burton.

Given that I really like the direction he's taking with these movies - I'll take any of his Disney re-imagineerings. Maybe Pinocchio: ''I'm an 'evil' real boy''.

P.S. I liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, nothing wrong with it - it's even more true to the book. Planet of the Apes however not so much...

While aspects of Charlie may be more true to the book, in the end it isn't any more true to the original source novel than Willy Wonka was. And Wonka seemed to have more soul and heart. You actually cared about Charlie, cause the movie spent some time making him a character worth caring about. In Burton's film Charlie is just as unlikeable as the other kids, and they're just a plot device for the creepy man child Wonka. And revealing Wonka's origins and showing us Loompa Land just destroyed the magic.

I agree that he should get back to original works. Big Fish and Beetlejuice are probably my two favorite Tim Burton movies, neither with Johnny Depp and neither are remakes.

He's gotten lazy. To enjoy any of his kids remakes you need to be on acid at the very least. I blame his wife for ruining his creativeness and will to try, the succubus.

I don't know, overall I think Tim Burton is one of the most consistent directors working today-- the Planet Of The Apes remake was a misfire but aside from that, I've enjoyed all of his films....

I'm a huge Tim Burton fan, and I'll be all over anything he chooses to take on. I'm definitely looking forward to Alice, and I don't think anyone's done much with Sleeping Beauty for more than 50 years. Given the different perspective, I think it has great potential.

By far my favorite Burton film is Big Fish, but there are few directors that have more films that I outright love.

The only film he made that I didn't care for was Planet of the Apes. Everything other film has been at the very least a "really like", usually "love".

Big Fish and Edward Scissorhands are definitely my favorites. Both are awesome... I really don't think that Beetlejuice is anywhere near as good as those, but I understand that I'm in the minority and I can see why people like that film so much. Its just not quite for me. Part of the problem is that it seems pretty dated, and I'm too young to have seen it when it came out...

Big Fish was adapted from a novel, so that's just as original as a remake is. And I don't get where the hate suddenly comes from. A lot of Burton's work has been based on existing material. Whether it's a comic book character, a book, Topp's play cards, or a movie doesn't really matter.

Well if we're going on the official meaning of a movie re-make, he only has one: Planet of the Apes. Some of the others are just a different take on existing material wether that be a book, comic or whatever.

Strangely enough Planet of the Apes is so far the only Burton-involved film I haven't enjoyed. (I honestly have no clue which ones he produced or directed, etc. hence the ''involved'' part)

This might be good, if well executed.

Well, as you can imagine Tim Burton is my favorite director. I have seen all his movies, short movies (frankenweenie), commercials (timex), music videos (The killers)...and I like them all, well maybe except one: Pee Wee's Big Adventure, that I own on dvd and saw it once and I will never see it again ( it was too boring...by the way did you know that Paul Rubens was arrested because he had an entire collection of infantile pornographic videos), and don't kill me because i loved his remake of Planet Of the Apes. I know the original is a master piece but I like his remeke more.
As for his latest movies I admit that I would prefer his gothik style from his early years (Batman, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands), and I would also prefer no music to Charlie and Chocolate factory or Sweeney but I think they are good and I'm in for anything he will direct.

P.S.: I sure wanted to see Ripley's Believed Or Not with Jim Carrey but that's not gonna happen.

Um, noooo....You're thinking of Jeffrey Jones.
Reubens was arrested for going to a public porno theater and "enjoying" it--Hence the late-80's jokes about "the new Pee-Wee doll that pulls its own string".
(Always wondered how urban legends always started in the first place.)

I want to see SOMEONE direct it, but not Tim, as I was too interested in the subject material to watch Tim try to vanity-derail it by reminding us How Twisted and Gothy He Thinks He Is with self-goofing camp humor that sabotages the tone...
A director who refuses to let an audience come to the movie on their terms or the movie's can often be a Spoiled Brat, and that's not a term you use with adults old enough to spend Warner or Disney's money.
