I am assuming your asking why Germany gets the most steelbook releases? Simple.... supply and demand. People there want them, they sell well, so they release lots.

Because Germany is the only country that shares terrestrial border with Denmark, the home of steelbook.

Well i think its both. We Germans got a huge fan base and had so many DVD Steels too. So as AccordTR pointed out theres a high demand for this. And as frank_051 sayed because we are located in Europe its easier for the Studios to get the Steels to the German market

Canada, Germany, and the rest of Europe created and own the Steelbook market. I love them for that and their releases!

I was wondering about that too. I love steelbooks, but it seems like there are barely any U.S. releases.. I don't really like importing too much, I just like to have the domestic Region A copies, but I want steelbooks at the same time.

I'm assuming that the German/French releases play in their respective country's native language by default? Or default to subtitles?

But unlike cars they can all afford their movies.

The US relative to its population isn't very interested in steelbooks and the last thing BestBuy wants is stagnant stock.

The steelbooks aren't really selling well in the States IMHO, the Disneys stayed in the shelves forever along with some James Bonds, it took forever for Up! and Snow Whit to pre-sell out (empty) and This is it might be a disaster with Canada getting a blu-ray sized.

In Canada the stocks usually disapear before dawn. We are getting more and more sbs releases, Germany, France watch out because we are coming.

Cheers,
Gui.

But how long can BB rely on dvd-sized (old manufacturing technique/plant) to sell its stock?

Sooner or later its going to have to release steelbooks on the proper format just like every other steelbook producing/releasing country.

There's a price that the company will pay by going too cheap when only considering the bottomline.

Hopefully BB will learn sooner rather than later.

THE HURT LOCKER example is a different animal, IMO.

First and foremost it sounds like the retail outlets were unusually understocked. I have read stores carrying 2-4 copies, or no more than 20.

What Tiger is referring to are regular SB releases which are usually in the 100s per store. STAR TREK and TRANSFORMERS II had those numbers, and both SteelBooks were sold out by that day.

Also with THE HURT LOCKER, I think it was a special circumstance around the speculation of its future value because of it being 'the first US exclusive'. Time will tell.

I fine with supply and demand, but US Amazon needs to stock foreign blu's so I can get my steelbooks faster

Now that I think of it though, If THIS IS IT turns out to be BD-sized in Canada, I think that would make THIS IS IT the first US exclusive BD-SteelBook, relegating THE HURT LOCKER to second place.

THIS IS IT was available first, even though the release date isn't until this Tuesday.

Sorry, its not I disagree- as the printed label at the spine of the steelbook is DVD - the sticker and the paper sleeve was the only thing separated it for Bluray.

The G1 steelbook might show up in R3 (asia) region...
