Ok, so the wife and I watched Start Trek again for about the fourth time since we bought the Blu-ray.
At the end, Spock Prime tells Spock that he has found a planet for which the remaining people of Vulcan can colonize. Being a troublemaker, I thought, aloud, about how the Vulcan people could rapidly bring their numbers up so that the Vulcan way of life can be quickly replenished. Polygamy. And while Spock can now afford to be in two places at one time, he (Spock, not Spock Prime) will not get to partake in the daily ritual of forced sex. The odd man out isn't the no-sex Spock, but rather Spock Prime spreading his Vulcan seeds of wisdom Thumbs Up amongst the Vulcan women. But in the original time line it is a notion that extremely few Vulcans bread outside their own species. And with few native examples for which to begin the sexy task at hand, do they dilute their species by bringing in non-Vulcan genes, or do they clone and bread therein? Either way you look at it it is bound to be a case that the best policy is to take samples from Romulus, as their next best kinship, and try to tame the savage Romulan beast from within. All I can say is I ain't about to get into marriage consoling on New Vulcan. Then again, maybe they'll test-tube their future population. |

They could use the Dr. Strangelove Post Nuclear War Survival Technique.
General "Buck" Turgidson: Doctor, you mentioned the ratio of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn't that necessitate the abandonment of the so-called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned? Dr. Strangelove: Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. I hasten to add that since each man will be required to do prodigious... service along these lines, the women will have to be selected for their sexual characteristics which will have to be of a highly stimulating nature. Ambassador de Sadesky: I must confess, you have an astonishingly good idea there, Doctor. ![]() |

I’ve watched a few times more than 3 times.
Why don’t they just use the genesis device to create a Vulcan look-alike planet? Yeah maybe Spock prime went back in time and captured I mean stole the genesis device while everyone was sleeping and replaced it with phoney dud version? Went further forward in time and set off the genesis device crating a Vulcan look-alike planet? Now isn’t that logical, (only in the mind of J.J. of course)? Romulans are the answer. As in the movie they share a common ancestor, essentially the same species with small evolutionary and societal differences. Vulcans and Romulans could get together, and if the Vulcans wish create a new Vulcan race, as being a Vulcan is more about society than actual anatomy in the end.

This movie proposes everything we knew of about the Star Trek universe is now gone, except for those bits that Spock Prime remembers. Personally, the notion of Spock Prime remaining intact is a paradox in which Hollywood will abuse to death. Also, Spock Prime has other memories. Should he share them? For instance, should he tell Kirk about Kirk Prime's amorous adventures that led to a son, and thence the son's death? Yikes, too much to think about so early on a Saturday morning. |

![]() As for the re-population of the Vulcan race? I believe it was said that there were thousands saved from the destruction of the planet. I'm certain that there will be enough variation in genetic pairings to offer the opportunity to take 2 or 3 mates within a lifetime. Perhaps they will continue the tradition of 1 marriage and have a societal obligation to mate or donate with several other members of each opposite sex in order to dilute similar genetic sequences of future generations? |

Here is another question ...
If Red Matter was developed, or harvested, by the Vulcan Science Academy, and it was known that it could create a singularity that ultimately creates a black hole (and not a white one, ![]() Boy, this is a fictionary mess. ![]() |
