Well I have had a couple of films ruined for me so I have yet to see thim. Phenomenon with Travolta and The Sixth Sense. Thank goodness when someone mentioned the ending of Brokeback Mountain they didn't say what character this certain thing happened to or how. And did not reveal the whole ending.
People should just be considerate of others and not ruin the endings for them.

Half-Blood prince. I was browsing yahoo! answers, and came across a question basically stating the ending:

why did __[ending of film here]___have to happen?

i was infuriated.

Oh man! That is a big one. My brother went to work one day and a fellow employee said he saw it. My brother has been adament with this guy about ruining films but the guy says "Yeah, it was pretty good.
[Show spoiler]Gandalf dies
of course." I don't know why people think it is okay.

Some folks think it makes them cool to spoil for others.

"His father is the evil mask man!"

An hour later. "See!!"

No sh*t, you've seen the movie. I had this happening to me a couple times in the theater. Its why I prefer opening day. Or at least first weekend. The chances of spoiler are much slim. Still, those spoil folks gotta stop. The type that talk right next to your ear, explaining what happens next scene to his friend, or sometime to himself, they are the worse kind.

you know what bugs me even more than spoilers?

when you're watching a film with someone who figures out the film about 1/3 of the way in, leans over and tells you, saying "this movie is a joke to figure out". grrrr keep it to yourself. of course i'm probably as equally pissed that he/she beat me to it than the ending was spoiled.

Guess I'm not the only one who had Sixth Sense spoiled and still hasn't seen it, just today someone asked me if I had seen it, crazy world.

I know plenty of people who had The Usual Suspects ruined by the Jay-Z video, The City is Mine. I had figured out the usual suspects the first time I saw it, and I am terrible at that sort of thing, I just go with the flow and let it catch me, but I spoiled it myself, doesn't hurt the movie though. BTW great video hehe.

That bugs me as well. Also, people who ask questions about what is going to happen throughout a film (this is during home viewings). But more than that is when a person asks what is going to happen and somebody answers them.

Person 1: "Is she going to die?"
Person 2: "Yes."

My answer is always 'Just watch'.

+1 about someone beating you to the ending

A friend of mine ruined the end of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets because he had to tell me how great the ending was. No warning either.

Use "SPOILERS" at you're own discretion.
Sixth sense... boy was I pissed, and I've still never seen it, since I know how it ends...

Not the ending to a movie at the time but
[Show spoiler]Dumbledore's death
was ruined for me.

It's actually a funny story. I was having a Super Bowl party in 2008 (Giants beat Patriots; screw New England) and the topic of Harry Potter comes up. Myself and my girlfriend had never read the books so everything was fresh. We both finish saying that neither of us have read the books then my idiot friend blurts out
[Show spoiler]"Well you know Dumbledore dies."
Dumbfounded, I look at him and go "NO YOU F**KING IDIOT! I HAVEN'T READ THE BOOKS!" He turns to my girlfriend and goes "Well you knew, right?" She replies with "NO YOU F**KING IDIOT! I HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK EITHER!" I kinda suspected it, but still to have that ruined pissed me off.

I once accidentally ruined the ending of Planet of the Apes for someone but I contend that I told her in 2002 and the movie had been out for over 30 years at that point and the Simpsons had famously made an episode about it so I figure that doesn't count. I mean at some point the moratorium on spoiling movie endings has to end. If I say that Vader is Luke's father no one should be able to get pissy, right?

My best friend asks questions nonstop through movies. We could be watching a movie for the first time, five minutes in he will start asking like I know what's happening. I'm well past humouring him anymore, damn, drink a beer, relax, and watch the movie.

hehe what's a spoiler shelf life? good question, how soon can you spoil a movie, once it's been on home video for a couple years?

Come on! I don't want to think about that during the film.

Also, I sort of had The Usual Suspects spoiled for me by Wrongfully Accused with Leslie Nielsen
The freakin COVER of The Others says says something like "a thriller with a shocking twist" - like, oh, thanks.

I don't think there is a specific answer. I always always ask unless there is a common reference like Soylent Green. My brother was upset that the film was spoiled for him but I have never seen the movie and I knew from so many references.

If Simpsons has parodied it (as Call_Me_Megatron mentioned), you can reference without worry IMO. For instance, The Shinning is almost exactly the same as The Shining.

Its a witch!

I had a friend accidently spoil an episode of Dexter this past season. The previous episode ended with Lundy and Deb getting shot in a parking lot. My friend and I always discuss the eps so when I saw him following the next ep the first words out of my mouth were "dont tell me a thing, I havent seen it yet." I mention there had been lots of speculation online all week about who the shooter was and he replies
[Show spoiler] "They dont tell u who killed Lundy." And I go "Lundy's dead!!! U idiot!!"

I found out less than 100 ft. from the theater about the cameo in Iron Man

I had made it up until that point with virtually no spoilers for the movie, and then BAM, the biggest one hit me just before making it into the theater.............

I must say that people never spoil movies for me because they know better, I don't think I've ever met someone who's liked movies as much as I do. Not in person, anyway.
