your people?

A graphic novel is an illustrated work of original fiction, generally 80 pages or more. This can originally arrive on paperback or hard cover.
A reprint edition of books originally appearing as comic books are trade paperbacks or comic reprints.
My beef is that it sounds like someone is rebranding comic books as graphic novels to make them more appealing or "less geeky", but there is nothing wrong with the comic book format in the first place.

Save for ever increasing cover prices.

I know these movies are out already but I really think The Crow should be remade using the novel as a storyboard in the same way 300 or Sin City was done. Another is Battle Royale. If they do, screw a PG-13 or R rating, do a NC-17 movie and give it the attention this art needs dammit......... sorry got a little carried away

A collection of single comic book issues is a trade paperback (or trade hardcover.) A graphic novel is like Watchmen or From Hell.

So, even though it's not a graphic novel, per se, I would love to see the Preacher HBO series come to fruition.

That would make Watchmen a trade paperback... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchmen

As it was originally a 12 issue comic series.

Exactly, not sure why everyone always seem to think it come out as a novel or book form right from the start?

Graphic novel is mostly a pretentious term the industry came up with to distance the works from their comic book-roots. It was a marketing term to draw in adult readers who had never read comics, and give them an air of literate sophistication.
